I did my training in a Lynx, then the majority of my service work was either Metrobus or B10L. When the garage I worked at got brand new Scania Omnilinks it was like a space shuttle!

What is the cheapest double decker bus to buy new?

It can be a ‘bulk buy’ discount as such, also support packages for spare parts, and servicing. In the case of many large businesses they sometimes issue a tender for suppliers to supply certain products, this can also drive down listed prices.

EU legislation and bus routes more than 50 km in length

Although the 24h between the shifts is correct, at NX for example, your 24h rest period must be a full calendar day. I think that’s a local agreement with Unite. It came into effect a few years after I started though.

Fuel economy of Scania Irizar PB and Volvo B12B 9700

I’d hazard a guess that they’re both Caetano Levante Tri-axles? Volvo B12, you’re gonna be looking around 5-7 around town, 12-15 at 100kmh. Obviously there’s a lot of variables. But that’s a rough estimate from previous experience.

With TWM/NXWM, a few years back this was the general layout of route number and letter suffix, not complete gospel as there was a few oddities. Examples 5 & 5A, Both had the same start and finish points, but the 5A missed out The Baldwin and Sarehole Mill. 1 & 1A, Same starting point and...

    Strangest bus destination screens?

I can’t remember if any of the solos ran in the red/white, I think they all got transferred via the paint shop. 1429 had the green seats, and yellow poles. Haven’t a clue why!

It would have been, was only AG that operated it, they gave you whatever was lying around the garage for school runs, ive got a photo somewhere of when they gave me a solo as a change bus on the 71, that was an absolute nightmare! the same way when the solo’s were knackered and you’d end up with...

    Strangest bus destination screens?

11X was the 11C from Archbishop Ilsley, as far as Kings Heath. 11S was the 11A from the same school, to the Fox & Goose. I do find it strange the 899 went to YW, but there was a lot of silly things happen years ago.

    Strangest bus destination screens?

A few years ago we had a handful of School routes that were ‘available to the public’ notably 11S, 11X, 841, 897, 885 & 899, all of which displayed the destination, either the school, or the terminus. There was one board that did the S91, this was a contract we had with Edgbaston High School...
