Thanks everyone. I'm tempted to chance it with the 17:19.
I'll think a bit more and then probably do that.
Sorry, I got myself confused between the day in the office in London (Thu 18) and the extra day I'm thinking about tacking on afterwards in MK (Fri 19).
Hi, I'm looking to travel from Milton Keynes Central to Edinburgh around 5pm on Fri 18th April.
I have the choice between the 17:19 or 17:24, both of which connect to the same train into Edinburgh. The 17:19 is cheaper and fewer changes, but it's West Midland Trains - does anyone know:
Would...
IIRC, the lionesses did win the Euros? And naming it Lioness Line is less likely to annoy Scots (and presumably Welsh and NI people) than the millionth reference to 1966!
"Lioness Line" is however a bit of a tongue-twister, so I'm not a fan for that reason alone.
According to https://democracy.edinburgh.gov.uk/mgConvert2PDF.aspx?ID=66427 the "Bioquarter and beyond" section has multiple options, but the preferred option (in blue on the map below) is Sheriffhall via Shawfair, which will be partly in Midlothian:
While they may have had names in everyday usage, they didn't on signs/maps/recorded announcements/etc. And it's changing those which is what will cost money - so the cost would still have been there to use those existing names
"roughly" is doing a lot of work there. The NLL goes to Richmond...
Seeing as the proposed extension takes the tram into Midlothian, I wonder how that will change.
Pensioners' bus passes for the two authorities accepted within their own authority area perhaps? Or one or two stops either side of the boundary (similar to how they can be used on buses as far as...
My thoughts:
Mildmay Line is a bad idea from a pronunciation PoV as if you're not familiar it's not obvious how you pronounce it (mild-may or milled-may?) I would suggest renaming to Olympic line
Lioness Line is also hard to pronounce as it's a tongue-twister. I saw someone on twitter...
A lot of the new housebuilding around Shawfair isn't really walking distance to the station and much of that which would be walkable is made harder by poor footpaths. Once the development closer to the station happens, and footpaths improve, I'd expect to see usage increase significantly.
Tram-train:
Waverley -> Brunstane -> Niddrie / Craigmillar -> Cameron toll on railway
Cameron Toll -> Hospital ("BioQuarter") -> Shawfair Park -> Shawfair Station on road
Shawfair -> Newcraighall -> Brunstane -> Waverley on railway
And another service doing the same in reverse
At either step 1 or step 3, a considerable percentage of people will ask a friend of family member who they know travels frequently for advice, or look at a site like MoneySavingExpert. This may result in maybe 5% of people doing things like the Haymarket trick.
And those steps apply mainly to...
And of course, if a booking site other than LNER (perhaps one operated by a TOC who gets a share of the ORCATS revenue on London-Haymarket flows) adding a big splash across the results of a London-Edinburgh search saying "You could buy a ticket to Haymarket but get off at Waverley for £x less"...
Ah, I think you're right, sorry.
I'd been going off what I remembered from the recent public meeting, rather than having another look at the plans. It's the school that has land reserved for future, but isn't actually being built, whereas the P&R does look to be being built.
I'll be slightly...
Does it?
I know there's land reserved for that purpose, but I thought it was future-proofing rather than actually being built along with the development.
Hi,
I can remember in the past (early '00s) buying train tickets from a travel agent that were printed on cardboard the size of an airline boarding card.
Does anyone have an image of one in that format, or the official name of that format so I could search for an image online (my google fu is...
