Fully reserved trains with unreserved seats

Our trip on Tuesday from Sunderland also had this message, so it looks like GC loadings are quite healthy. Although a reasonable proportion of the reserved seats weren't occupied, and I didn't see anyone having to stand on the 12:30 departure.

Ticket machines: Why has QWERTY been abandoned?

The QWERTY layout was designed to minimise the chances of two keys hitting each other during fast typing, remember the keys travelled through an "arc" in the way to the paper. I can't remember the last time I actually used a mechanical typewriter...

    Class 221 for Grand Central

1st class gets you a bigger 2+1 seat. Free tea or coffee and a small snack brought to you at your seat, ordered on an spp. So you pays yer money and makes yer choice... More comfortable yes, also more expensive.

    LNER launching a mascot

More like an obscene gesture to the passengers when there is disruption...

    Class 221 for Grand Central

I generally agree with you, but for some weeks the GC feed was completely empty if you did not have a Twitter/X account. I reported this to them and after a couple of days the feed showed 5he current info where the most recent was from 2020. There have been some cancellations in the last few...

    Class 221 for Grand Central

To be fair to GC, other companies have also been caught out by Elon's attempts to monetize his purchase, amid his advertisement income falling off a cliff and he is trying to increase his subscriber numbers accordingly.

    Class 221 for Grand Central

GC use Twitter/X for their updates, but if you don't have an account on that app then the most recent update is from several years ago... I have emailed them and the reply was "it has been passed on to the relevant team... Several days ago!

Time from Gatwick Airport North Terminal.

If you miss the monorail, and there is only one in operation, then it could easily 15 minutes or a little more. If all goes well, as little as 7 minutes.

Derailment near Carlisle - 19/10/2022 - 1715 Clitheroe Castle Cement Gb to Carlisle N.Y. (6C00)

Would a Carlisle to Newcastle ticket be valid via Glasgow & Edinburgh - might be z way to clock up some cheap mileage.... And as an aside on the carriage / car /wagon debate, one of the standard safety announcements on Grand Central refers to safety notices posted in the passenger saloon.

Tunnel work on 10th September cut a cable

I worked with a company that had the standby diesel generators next to the office building but staff complained about the noise and smell during the regular testing, so management decided to move them to the other side of the car park away from the building. A trench was dug for the pipes and...

    Odd Grand Central Observation

According to their website they had a problem earlier and had a cancellation on the Bradford service, and advised those passengers to get the Sunderland service to Doncaster where they had a set to collect the Bradford passengers to take them onwards.

P&O Ferries - mass redundancies without consultation

Well, given that Boris did a similar thing, what could you expect....

P&O Ferries - mass redundancies without consultation

I know it's been a while, but whatever happened to the threats of legal action against P&O Ferries and their directors? Or has this just quietly been dropped after all the strong words at the time....

    Grand Central declining service quality

Yes, there are still ticket checks so any "interlopers" will/should be caught. Prior to Covid there was a dedicated host who did regular tea/coffee/biscuit runs who would also go and fetch whatever you ordered from the buffet... They still do an "at seat" delivery service in 1st for orders from...

    Grand Central declining service quality

I am surprised that you were surprised as there are clear announcements stating this. I think the idea is to minimize the cash handling and encourage people to use the ordering system. It's been like this for a while now. It's good when you are in 1st class as they still bring your order to you.
