    I believe LNER run Durham ticket office, and it was purchased through my workplace travel portal using TOD and collected from Durham station.

    I did not have any Railcard, but thanks everyone for the replies so far. Appears to be a misunderstanding by Durham ticket office, I will try my local ticket office and see what they can do. If no luck there I will return to Durham and try again.

    The staff member refused to do the upgrade at all, and was very sympathetic but adamant it was no longer possible on advances (then mentioned about weekend upgrades were ok on the train, which was no use for myself as my tickets are in March for a Monday outward and a Wednesday coming back)
