I suppose if I were to put my tin foil hat on and note that the other stations that have had or are having 6 car extensions are between Piccadilly and the Airport I might guess at a Wigan-Bolton-Piccadilly-Airport service if a bigger timetable change is in the works, not really sure how it would...
Simple answer is they don't need six carriages.
I suspect the timetable changes will be that the current Southport Stalybridge is cut back and diverted to Wigan North Western, and run with single 323s.
The current Wigan Leeds via Atherton train is split with the Manchester Wigan bit extended to...
Don't read too much into the Glasgow it's more just to illustrate the path of the one service that currently runs.
For the reason SuperNova states the Newcastle and Saltburn are on their current timings from Stalybridge onwards.
Same reason I couldn't have a nice 15 minute timings for the...
A new Liverpool to Manchester Timetable or: how I made a timetable guarantied to upset almost everyone.:D

Inspired by this thread I got to thinking about about changes to services if you just stopped using the Ordall...
I'll admit I missed that one, however as far as I can tell everything using platform 8 is on the fast line and anything using 9 through 12 is using the single line through 9 anyway.
Yes the diamonds are a product of the constrained space;
The idea B is to allow capacity to extend the two...
It would be nice if you could run everything through but my main thought with the Piccadilly part is about improving resilience for delays and disruption.
The current official thinking is two through platforms and a central bay, three at least gives some flexibility when terminating services...
My thoughts on possible alterations to improve relatability on the Castlefield corridor;
Oxford Road Option A 3 Platforms arrangement aiming for platform Length and unrestricted access to both ends of the central platform,

Option B Shorter platforms and middle platform only...
Cut to one train an hour and also last I checked Buxton wasn't in Greater Manchester.
Stockport to Bolton trains were all cut. The Southport train still goes to Castlefield because people in Southport complained, again last I checked Southport wasn't in Greater Manchester.
Manchester's...
I'm hoping that they've picked that location for the Brewery turn because it's easier to electrify than the Brewery loop itself otherwise it seems a bit pointless.
err no they're permitted via Chat Moss, https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:C01817/2023-05-04/detailed#allox_id=1
but you are probably right as to reason the won't be running.
Last time it was shut it was mainly double 158 sets on the Oxford Road Southport run.
When when most of you're other options have one wheel in the scrapyard there's not whole lot of other reasonable choices.
The Leeds Huddersfield stopper can just go back to Northern and the Manchester to Huddersfield could be done with daily hire also back to Northern in the longer term. It's...
Simplest would be for TPE to order more 802s to replace the 185s at least in carriage numbers it's enough to take out every northern 2 car 150, 153 carriages in 144 out. The north still gets new trains so politically acceptable.
