    Class 800 pantograph operation

Many thanks for your explanation. I read "light current electrical engineering" and missed the exciting stuff, but my supervisions were held next to the prototype of the world's first commercial scanning electron microscope.

    East-West Rail: Progress and updates

"Page 6" in my downloaded pdf is the last sheet, 95% white paper!... The rail map is on page 4 of my pdf.

    Snooker

At the moment I'm dipping in and out of TV from the ongoing Championship at Sheffield. There's a lady refereeing one of the matches, and that's reminded me, that I've never seen a woman playing snooker on TV, or elsewhere. What's the problem? Tables too high? And, how does a referee remember...

There's one sunk in the Thames estuary.

    Class 800 pantograph operation

Is this done automatically, or under the control of the driver?

    Snooker

I remember my mother telling me that her father always told her that "Billiards is a very skilled game", but he died 20 years before I played.

    Failed organisational name changes

I'm sure she knew what it meant... I suspect it was all an act.

    Snooker

I think I enjoyed it, on TV, back in the 1980s. In my teens I played billiards for a short period, but was never introduced to snooker - perhaps the venue didn't own a set of snooker balls.

At least when the Hemel Hempstead oil tanks burnt, they were away from housing.

    Blue Pullman Returns

I used the original to travel home to Manchester in Spring, 1962 - I'd been in London for job interviews. I enjoyed the meal, and the journey through Derbyshire.

    East-West Rail: Progress and updates

I filmed this "special" in March 2018 on the flyover at Bletchley.

What is the experience of train travel in India vs the UK or other countries?

I was surprised to find that much of Indian Railways is broad gauge, when my history lessons tried telling me that the UK was responsible for creating the early railways in India.

    Longest line of sight (UK)

Very envious! I had my first proper "outing" since Lockdown commenced, and it was to Luton last Sunday. At least on our drive back to Milton Keynes, we saw some decent views for this area, around the Barton Hills area along the A6, but in no way could they be described as long distance views.
