    Travelcard - break of journey

I often use a (paper) travelcard from SE Essex (C2C or Greater Anglia) to London Zones 1-6. I would be grateful for advice on the following. Can I break the outward journey before reaching Zone 6? Can I break the return journeys after leaving Zone 6? With a Greater Anglia ticket, can I use the...

    Trivia: isolated standard gauge lines

There's a short length of isolated standard gauge track by West Horndon station. I assume it's used for track worker training.

    C2c 16 coach train

Just seen this https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk A 16 coach train on c2c. The previous and next workings also 16 coaches. What would be the reason for this? (There were delays earlier due to points failure at Pitsea.) Is one unit kept out of use? How does the train fit into platforms? Or is this...

Should we rename stations with wrong county name

Many sports have county associations based on historic names and boundaries. I know that Middlesex Bowling Association still includes territory (eg Poplar, Stepney, Bethnal Green) that was incorporated into the London County Council area in the late 19th century.

Which bus operators are ‘going all out’ during the summer promoting new tourist orientated services?

Southern Vectis start their Coaster and Needles Breezer next week. The Breezer timetable seems to have a lot of padding in its timings so the route requires three vehicles.

    Trivia: Stations named after buildings.

There are many stations named after churches, cathedrals etc. Often, as I suspect with St Pancras, the link is indirect, the station taking the name of the parish.

What was the first "big" supermarket to open in your local area?

Keddies, a department store in Southend-on-Sea, opened Supa Save, one the first supermarkets in the UK around 1962.It closed in the 70s because of competition from the larger chains.

    Shenfield-Southend Line

I have not come across any plans to extend a line from the Great Eastern to Shoebryness. A Southend to Colchester service is mentioned above. This actually happened. Soon after opening the Shenfield to Southend line, and Southminster branch, curves were built making triangular junctions at...

    Shenfield-Southend Line

The book "The Shenfield to Southend Line* (Oakwood Press) mentions several proposals of lines from the Great Eastern to South East Essex. Also a London, Tilbury and Southend proposal for a line from Pitsea to Southend via Benfleet, Rayleigh and Rochford (probably an attempt to block the Great...

Trivia: Stations with surviving run-around loops?

There would be no point in turning locos at Bembridge as there was no means of turning at the other end of the branch (Brading). In fact, apart from this disputed example, no station on the island had a turntable for locos. They were turned when they worked a duty Newport - Sandown - Ryde -...

    Strangest bus destination screens?

London trolleybuses and, before them, trams terminating at Harlesden, College Green had destination blinds "Nr Willesden Junction".
