    A career as a signaller

Hi mate, certainly for me the interview was held just a few miles away from the actual box I'll be working in, in London. I'd be very surprised if they made you schlep to Manchester unless of course you were going to be based around there. No idea about the courses but I'm curious to find out...

    York Signalling School

@Lasbrisas Thanks for the detailed response, very handy to have a rough idea of the timescales and what the medical involves! @baz962 Haha yeah we're in a bad place at the moment. Won't clog up this thread with football chat but suffice to say a decent run in the Europa is the only way we'll be...

    York Signalling School

Hey @tryles87, yeah that's a big help, thanks matey :-) I did figure based on how long it's taken me to get this far that it wouldn't be all done in a matter of weeks, but it's cool to have a grasp of roughly how long it might take. Is the medical fairly basic? I've never actually had one...

    York Signalling School

Hi Lasbrisas, can I ask how long it was between finding out your interview had been successful and getting a start date for York? I got the nod that I'd passed my interview on Friday just gone (13th) and sent off my forms (employment history etc) to HR the next day. I'm now just waiting to hear...

    A career as a signaller

I think there was a good 3 months between me meeting the required benchmark for the online testing and getting invited to interview, so whilst I imagine that's more the exception than the rule, don't be disheartened if you don't hear back straight away!

    York Signalling School

Oh man tell me about it haha. I was bricking it going in as it's the first job ever that I've actually wanted and haven't just applied for for the money/location/etc etc. I answered some questions well but for others there were definitely some awkward silences while I tried desperately to think...

    York Signalling School

Yeah they did actually so I thought it was odd I had to send HR a copy too. I'm just assuming that maybe the copy taken at interview was more for the sake of the LOM so he could keep a track on who he has seen etc, and that the copy to go to HR is the official proof which will sit on record to...

    York Signalling School

Chris, do you mind me asking how it works with food etc? Like, do Network Rail provide meals, do they give you money towards it, do you spend your own money and keep receipts, or is it just totally on you to cover the expense? Also how does it work with the train fares to and from home, so in my...

    York Signalling School

Hi Sinistah, I got an email from HR. Basically it was just an email with a letter attached which had the old "we are pleased to say...", and then a few forms which have to be returned to them, along with copies of your passport etc. I would very much imagine you'll be the same and it would be...

    York Signalling School

Might even see you there Clyde :-) I found out my interview was successful on Friday, sent back the employment history forms etc over the weekend so now am just waiting for Network Rail to do their checks on me and for the medical company to get in touch with me to schedule my medical. This...

    York Signalling School

Hiya Chris, Couldn't have asked for a more precise answer, so thanks for answering everything for me :-). It sounds like there are fairly regular tests and checks thrown in so if you've made it to your last week I'm assuming you've done well for yourself. Best of luck with wherever you're...

    York Signalling School

Morning all, I had my interview yesterday for a Grade 2 signaller role. Got pretty nervous so am worried I many have f*cked it, but just in case I didn't I have a question with regards how it works if you go to the signalling school in York (was told that's where the one for my role would be)...

    A career as a signaller

Hello all, I applied for a signaller role around 4-5 months ago now and, having completed the online assessment etc and then hearing next to nothing for a very long time, received an email yesterday telling me I had been invited to interview in a couple of weeks time. To say I'm excited would...
