Prioritising freight vs passenger trains and how it works in other countries?

If the line from Ipswich to Peterborough, Leicester and Nuneaton had been electrified there would be no need for the NLL to be used at all

Engineering Works on East Coast Main Line midweek 16&17th. May 2023.

Doesn’t matter when NR have a possession as long as a freight train doesn’t fail on the Up road near Werrington Jn as was the case on Tuesday. Everything ran smoothly on Wednesday it seems.

Whittlesey - collision between freight train and tractor. (19/08/21)

BR spent that money to prevent further loss of life, remember both DMU drivers were killed in the 1970 and 1976 accidents due to total disregard of the rules by drivers of vehicles at that crossing.

Whittlesey - collision between freight train and tractor. (19/08/21)

I meant one has to be quite intelligent for such procedures as spraying, ploughing etc which are usually computer assisted, NOT necessarily for just driving the damn thing over a crossing as in this case.

Whittlesey - collision between freight train and tractor. (19/08/21)

My uncle (Arthur Broughton) was signalman on duty in the Shippea Hill ‘box at the time of the accident on the 3rd December 1976. The Department of Transport report on the accident Item 25 :- “ Broughton explained that he could see Chivers Level Crossing from his signal box in clear weather and...

Whittlesey - collision between freight train and tractor. (19/08/21)

From someone who had a conversation with the ‘railwaymen’ near the site on Saturday evening, it would appear that the gates were found in a permanently open position, presumably for that day’s movements across the crossing with there having been no contact perhaps ever with the signaller.

Whittlesey - collision between freight train and tractor. (19/08/21)

I think your comments regarding, in this case tractor drivers, are totally unfair. Have you seen the controls in the cab of a modern tractor, you have to be pretty bright to work one of these Yes, there is a lot of casual labour but there are also farms in my area where workers have been there...

    Werrington grade separation updates

On RTT I see there are engineers trains to Werrington Jn. starting this Saturday 18th July. Saturday the 8th August there are no passenger trains between Spalding and Peterborough so can it be assumed this is the weekend when the connection from the Joint Line to the dive under line ( ? Glinton...
