    trivia oldest and newest together

Does anyone know who old the steam tender frames are on which the independent snow ploughs still used by Network Rail are built? I know they're former LNER tenders.

Here's a 66 year age gap: https://www.warwickshirerailways.com/lms/mrb483.htm The caption on the site states (my bold): 22630 entered service in 1870. https://www.brdatabase.info/locoqry.php?action=locodata&id=113891&type=S&loco=22630

It may not the oldest gronk on the national network but 08617 was built in 1959 and shares it's Oxley home with brand new 730s, a 65 year age difference.

Keir Starmer and the Labour Party

...which rules out Bury North which is closer to being a bellwether seat than a red wall seat. In the 10 general elections since the constituency was formed in 1983, it has been won by the winning party nationally on 9 occasions, 2017 being the sole exception. To me a red wall seat is one...

(Light-Hearted) Worst-Targetted Ads on This Forum & Elsewhere

Fortunately not. That was someone who was representative of the majority of the FB friend recommendations I get, ie someone who isn't famous, who I don't know and who I've never interacted with in any groups I'm a member of as far as I'm aware - basically someone the FB algorithm has just...

Yes I gathered that, I just wanted to get in a sideways blow directed at Brexit ;)

To be fair the Typhoon is partially built in Britain as part of a multinational consortium. The project is a fine example of the benefits of close co-operation between European nations, something else the UK used to do well in the past.

Interesting choice of images to show 'The UK is as strong as ever': A football team who haven't won anything for 58 years A man who lost an election to Liz Truss A (presumably UK made) car, Britain currently ranks 18th in global car production, behind Iran, Slovakia and Thailand. An aerial...

(Light-Hearted) Worst-Targetted Ads on This Forum & Elsewhere

This is the first celebrity recommendation I've noticed, it's odd because aside from being someone I have a strong dislike for, the recommendation of Farage seems utterly random based on my Facebook activity. I only really use Facebook for groups these days, I'm a member of around 20, none of...

Not an ad but this Facebook 'friend' recommendation was somewhat wide of the mark:

Controversial railway opinions (without a firm foundation in logic..)

Definitely. I thought at the time it opened that tram rather than heavy rail was a huge missed opportunity, nothing has happened since that point to change my mind.

Comedic "things you would ban": minor things that irritate you

Dudley Council's tip booking system - more specifically the fact you have to book two days in advance. I can accept there may be technical reasons preventing booking the same day (ie ensuring the tip staff have revised bookings to hand) but see no logical reason why I can't book a slot for...

    Mysterious Holes in My Lawn

That was my thought, quite possibly badgers. They regularly leave similar looking holes in our lawn.

Comedic "things you would ban": minor things that irritate you

Have you been into a city centre recently? The only conversation or human interaction you're likely to receive from strangers is from people attempting to squeeze money out of you one way or another.

Comedic "things you would ban": minor things that irritate you

When in cities I've taken to wearing them even when I'm not actually listening to anything. It definitely seems to reduce the likelihood of being pestered by chuggers/canvassers/sales people etc.
