    The figure you see is the maximum a driver will get. You don’t get more than your colleague because you’ve been on the job for 5/10/15 years more than them. Certain TOCs pay more though. Avanti being one of the highest. A list is on the ASLEF site I believe.

    Probably looking at Northern for Manchester. TPE/ Cross Country have recently advertised and Avanti have a shedload of people in talent pools, people awaiting DMIs, people awaiting assessments, people awaiting next stage of online assessments. Can’t see Avanti advertising for a few years now.

    I’m going to have a guess that it is Liverpool staff that bring it back to Lime St/ Allerton depot so they have to be positioned in Manchester for it to be on time. If they’re late getting to Man Airport / Man Pic, wherever change of staff is, then the delay can happen. Obviously other factors...

    You’ll have to apply again if they come up and hope you get through the initial sift with the CV and application. Won’t hurt emailing their HR though. They may sift your application through due to you passing assessments and psychs.

    A career as a train driver

    Psychs valid for 5 years. Then you may have to sit a CBI if you were to apply for the likes of Avanti, as depot driving you do a MMI. Just apply for anything that comes up. The moment you start depot driving you wish you’d have applied for mainline straight away.
