May I ask what the problem with the Gold MMC's is? I briefly spoke with a driver on one of NAT's newer MMCs and he seemed to really enjoy driving them and was a big fan of the digital mirrors. As a passenger I've never particularly liked them but I didn't realise that drivers disliked them too.

Back when my local service (17, 18, 19) ran every 10 minutes, the tactic was often to cancel 4 of the 6 hourly services, running the remaining two as the "19E" which covered the main segment of most of the estates. The first one that springs to mind is Falcon Buses based in Surrey. Interestingly, the vehicles branded for First Plymouth's "Tamar Link" services were named after various local bird species.
