    Opportunity to pay

A follow-up question: What happens if both machine not working and ticket office closed on a branch line. There is a three minute connection time at the junction. Is one expected to lose the connection with the main line buying a ticket at the junction; or does one get delayed and claim delay...

    Seated rail staff, passengers standing

Very occasionally in London one sees service personnel from UK & Allied forces in uniform (normally officers) on the tube. Except for special circumstances I would always expect them to stand (along with police in uniform)

Crossrail - Construction updates and progress towards opening (now expected 24 May 2022)

    Class 345 progress

Looked like a normal train when I saw it this morning on approach to Paddington

    Delay repay. Do you bother?

Yes I always claim. The reason being that the management of the TOC are bound to be more interested looking at their management information each month where they see ££ going out to members of the public. In particular when they fail to hold connections for a couple of mins longer.

British Transport Hotels in the 1970s & 80s

Yes - Along with my earlier post about my dad wanting good value he booked that for their honeymoon. In January. He was a big fan of BTH hotels due to their "value"

British Transport Hotels in the 1970s & 80s

Stayed in them as a child, including the Kyle of Lochalsh Hotel. My dad would not have stayed anywhere that was not "Good Value", so they must have been. I remember all the cutlery and coffee pots being stamped "BTH". i also remember staying in the one in St Ives, and I think that the St Ives...

    Unpublished Contactless Boundary Zone Fares

If this is the case, how is the average informed punter supposed to check the logic that they have received the lowest charge if they do not publish the fares. Are we supposed to simply "trust" that TfL get it right?

    Unpublished Contactless Boundary Zone Fares

Could it be that the back office capping system is checking capping for 1-2; 1-3; 1-4 etc. Whichever is cheaper, and it will no always cap on 1-6?

    Unpublished Contactless Boundary Zone Fares

Do these things exist? I am trying to work out how various journeys have been "capped" from the Thames Valley into London, travel around London and then return to the Thames Valley. I can only assume that the system has tried various capping scenarios with zones, and then added on these...

Crossrail - Construction updates and progress towards opening (now expected 24 May 2022)

And the RER is operated by the SNCF (I think) so very comparable. I have always used the RER example to explain to people how it will feel, especially the "limited stop" feel in central London

Level crossing, barriers up but wig-wag lights still going.

I have seen this at Furze Platt. Given that it is a single track branch line, all the drivers just piled over the crossing as soon as the barriers went up. I assume that the signaller would not have been aware of this failure
