    Automated Announcements

I use the Cross-City every day and have never heard an automatic announcement on a Class 323.

    Hst Damage Pic Any ideas

I don't think it's the Newton Abbot accident. I believe this photo shows that incident and you can see the damage to 43071 is not as severe and also the powercar number is on the front under the driver's window unlike the picture in the first post.

Off Peak Return CrossCountry evening peak

I am going to use an Off-Peak Return to travel from Birmingham to Manchester. Does the evening peak period prevent me from using my ticket then or does this apply to only Off-Peak Day Returns?

    MSTS or Rail Simulator?

You're going to have to be more specific about your own PC specs if you expect us to give you an answer. I would say if your PC can handle it go for Railworks.

Abuse to the 'Push' buttons on trains.

No if you hold the button down the doors will open when the guard unlocks them and the green light comes on.

    Auto Anouncments - Errors/funny sayings

On a London Midland Class 350 from Birmingham International to New St on approach to every intermediate station: 'We are now approaching Watford' There were a few confused faces but luckily most people laughed!

    Virgin Voyager Coach VS MK3

I know the FGW refurbs have plug sockets at both table seats and airline style seats. I'm pretty sure the XC HSTs have the same sort of setup as well.

    Virgin Voyager Coach VS MK3

1 - I've seen at least as many internal Voyager doors stuck open. Also the ones that do work shut on people which can be a real pain (sometimes literally) when people are boarding/leaving the train. 4 - Why does a refurbishment mean that HSTs must have lost their advantages? They still have...

    Somewhere near Bristol

You could try Yatton - FGW HSTs, XC Voyagers and HSTs go through pretty fast and you'll also get stopping FGW 143/150/153s. I think you might even get the 67s+Mk2s stopping as well.

XC Trains New St - South West Help

Yes, the CrossCountry Voyagers heading to the south-west will go along the south Cross-City line as well as the Class 170s to Cardiff Central. I have been on a few trains that have been diverted along the Camp Hill line but this is usually when there is a problem/engineering works on the...

    Reversing in service

XC Voyagers between Birmingham New St - Cardiff Central will reverse at Gloucester and Temple Meads. Also during engineering works CrossCountry trains between Chelteham Spa and Bristol Temple Meads will reverse at Newport - saw a couple today after a derailment and they have been doing this...

Do you ALWAYS claim for delay? If not, why not?

Newtown is on the Cambrian line not the Marches so you'd still have to catch the same two-hourly train at Shrewsbury instead of New St.

    Temple Meads to University Birmingham

I don't see why you don't just do what National Rail or NXEC suggest. Just get the 1700 XC from BRI to CNM and catch the 1757 XC service from Cardiff Central onto UNI. It is scheduled to stop there at 1839 leaving you time to get to your lecture (By the way, 1900 - that's a bit harsh hehe)...

IEP - Express Rail Alliance Design unveiled:

No I haven't made it up that far unfortunately. I've only been on the Central/CrossCountry ones which are quite tatty as well although I have seen some sets have been refurbished but haven't been on them yet. I'm sure I'll get the chance to when I start traveling on them regularly again...
