It was. You can see it in older pictures, especially where it wraps around onto the ends. I think it got removed on some of them when they were refurbished.

I've seen various pictures of BR diesels with various white embellishments. The white stripe on a 31, or a white cab surround on a 35 to name a couple. What others were there? Were these officially authorised? And why did they stop before the end of br blue?
