A while back (way before the pandemic) I noticed a number of Sunday runs from Salisbury to Reading via Andover. Not sure how that came about but a great idea. If some commuter services like that ran it would really help job access options... not sure if that was on the cards as an aspiration.

Does anyone know whether SWR driver route knowledge is held to periodically get DMUs trapped East of the incident around to Salisbury for maintenance/refueling? My understanding was all facilities are at Salisbury for the 159s. Could be very tricky if not, but I'm not aware of services running...

I had never seen it written before and thought from an ancient memory it was a 'ZIP' stamper and so had my Google fail! Good to know the correct term now :-)

Thanks Yorkie and Pdeaves your points helped me find the stamper name which is used at inspection. It's a Zifa type. https://www.zifferndruck.de/en/products_ticketstamper.shtml That page contains a non UK sample print. So by the sounds of it there is no standard requirement for the information...

One with the date stamped in and two other numbers/strings, one in line with the date, the other perpendicular. Google was not my friend on this query ;)

Thanks Yorkie, I guess the tricky point is that approximately the same departure time is offered, but then that service is part-cancelled causing an hour wait at Salisbury. We could leave an hour earlier and *might* connect with our reserved seats at EXD but I don't fancy chancing that and...

Judging by presentation of the info on BRfares.com it would seem buying before the 2nd of January means that the 08:45 restriction applies throughout the ticket purchased at that time.

I successfully overdistanced my outbound destination and return so it's still possible :-). I Think it was an avantix bases machine and involved getting a calculator out but I am very happy and can quiz the original station operator about it if I get chance. :-)
