Plans to reopen Totton - Fawley/Hyte (again!)

The infrastructure is so far below spec it is more of a hinderance than a help. If the powers that be want it, the quoted cost will be £17m and the outturn £40m. If they don't, the quoted cost will be £200m, the scheme will die and and nobody will be able to prove any different.

Crossrail opening delayed (opening date not yet known)

Heavily subsidised bus fares. Free bus travel for over 60s. Free travel for over 65s Free buses for under 11s. Lots of free stuff. He will only loose if a rival promises even more free stuff.

Wisbech-March line reopening cost increase to £200m

Wisbech is a big place in it's own right. Ely and Cambridge are higher order centres. It is a very good fit although Kings Lynn would be drawing much traffic as their nearest place of a higher order.

Wisbech-March line reopening cost increase to £200m

At £7,000 for every man, woman and child in Wisbech the £200m looks to be. The £1bn figure would be not far short of paying to abandon the town completely and build a brand new home in Ely or Cambridge for every single family.

Salisbury to Romsey blocked by a land slip.

I would have thought Frome should be a more pressing case for a better service, but it looks like these luminaries don't understand why Filton is important while lumping Wales into the too difficult category. In that part of the world, high-speed means any service that is faster than the age of...

Salisbury to Romsey blocked by a land slip.

It doesn't need doubling, just a loop to pass two trains without blocking up either Bradford or Thingley Jns.

Capacity between Newton Abbott and Exeter St Davids

Theoretically a 9 car IET has about 650 seats and a fair few standing every 4mins, in each direction. But every train stopping reduces that while a 4min frequency also seems to dictate every other train will either go towards Paignton or end at Newton Abbot. In practice it is more like one 650...

Wisbech-March line reopening cost increase to £200m

Worth noting at £200m for 7 miles, HS2 would have cost £9.6bn. This is a branch line with no tunnels on an existing formation that carried trains not that long ago.

Great Western Franchise Extension 2020 to?

They just need to get some alignment between the employer and certain trade unions who seem to delight in making it as difficult as possible to train their members. An industry will not succeed when many of its employees are actively working against their employers interests and don't have a...

    Worcestershire Parkway station progress

If you want to declare mk3s not to your taste fine, but there needs to be an alternative other than continue muddling through. They are far better than much other stock that will be around for years to come.

    Worcestershire Parkway station progress

Bristol Parkway is surrounded by dense housing suburbs and close to major employers of national scale, as well as a large shopping centre. Tiverton or East Midlands would be more realistic.

    Worcestershire Parkway station progress

There is virtually no local population even in cycling radius. The projected modal share was always about 95% private car, 2% taxi and the rest because they had to somehow fiddle the figures to justify putting on a token bus.

    Worcestershire Parkway station progress

With a train service to Worcester every hour and no settlement of any note for 10 miles in any direction, except Worcester itself, they would have to pay £4.60 before seeing much uptake.

    Worcestershire Parkway station progress

If the powers that be really believed that, they wouldn't be building car parks in fields miles from anywhere. Planning, housing and infrastructure is now beholden to the model of the outer suburbs, out of town shopping, out of town public services, car parks and parkways.

RMT dispute with NR over Automatic Route Setting (ARS), but what are details ?

Given its tendency to try and route passenger trains down goods loops I suspect not!
