Don't know if this post is genuine or a wind up, surely a person would know before applying about the shift work involved. Don't know many people that go through all them assessments and then say no.

Since start of 2021 I've just been working my basic 4 days a week and I do permanent afternoons, I feel I'm at home alot and get to spend plenty of time with kids and family, long weekends I usually catch up with friends. Maybe the guys who work every rest day and Sunday they can and stop over...

I love the job mainly because I enjoy having absolutely nothing to do with passengers, I was a guard first and did not enjoy dealing with the general public. There is always time for banter with drivers/guards when on pnb or the rare time you are spare and not given any work.

I agree the functional skills is a waste of time and u will gain nothing from doing it, it's basically 1 week in a class room, however if u can show u have GCSE grade C or better u will just do front ending, then it's just 1 phone call from your assessor every 5 or 6 weeks seeing how u are...

Well It was WMT that allowed a trainee I'm friends with to take on a 2nd job as he said he was bored being at home for so long and effecting his mental health. All they said was to stay on top of the rules and traction as anytime you could get a call to return to work, this was 7 months ago.

Try doing it for 18 months and see how boring it can get, I know a feel trainees who are still sat at home since March 2020 and haven't heard a thing from WMT for months, sitting at home doing nothing sounds great but in reality it can get boring especially during these covid times.

A very long wait if you are for Birmingham New Street, most likely be sat at home for up to 18 months before they find a instructor, could be 2 years.

Depends what depot, if you're down for Birmingham New Street then it's going to be a long long wait as at the moment I've only seen 1 trainee out and about and I've been told there are around 40 sat at home for Birmingham New Street!

I think it will be alot more than 6 months at home before u start driving a train, as trainees from September, October and November 2019 course are still at home. They all need to return and complete 230 hours driving and pass out before trainees from 2020 start driving. And sometimes after...

I don't think they've told WMT incase they say no. More concerned about their own mental health looking at the same 4 walls each day.
