    Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Bus News

NCT have confirmed on Twitter that the new Electric buses will be rolling out on the Red Line 50 tomorrow https://twitter.com/NCT_Buses/status/1776912808585666758

Yeah, 8 of them. At least three 1/2 rows have sufficient legroom for us tall people rather than the usual 1! So much space has been left for wheelchairs and prams it means nearly all the seats a quiet a bit step up though. Photo is of the buses, 2 each in Blue Line 39, Pink Line 30, Red...

    Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Bus News

Seems like they are all safe for now, but only because others have agreed to cover for the short term - existing operators/partners willing to cough up for a year in the hope a new government will provide some more certain funding, via the Combined Authority perhaps - "subject to review in the...

Class 810 for East Midlands Railway Construction/Introduction Updates

I keep see "you can only have five car trains" - is there any reason why they can't be all nine/ten car trains from a physical space aspect (cost being a separate matter)? For example do they need smaller ones so two services can be berthed at the same platform to operate the current time table?

I've always wondered if these large green cabinets on the exit slip road were "emergency" chargers? IIRC the buses are stored next to them when the P&R is closed so it doesn't matter if they (the buses) get in the way. Distance between them seems about right.

Class 810 for East Midlands Railway Construction/Introduction Updates

Isn't that because historically electrification has come with new trains and other line upgrade works which have sped up services (acceleration & top speed) and, in general, improved reliability. The MML has maxed out most of those gains with the Meridians so a switch to electrification won't...

Would be interesting to see how the WPL is spent - AIUI the bulk is to fund the loans taken out to pay for the tram. Should be raised to match the lowest price NCT Annual Bus Pass and the extra used to fund the Medilink and Link Bus Network. The Green Line buses suffer from being stuck in the...

13A sockets in carriages - What is the maximum current they can supply and how are they wired?

You can use any USB-C charger with the laptop - the ones which do Laptops can be quiet chunky but the Gan chargers are small enough a USB-A & C one in the formfactor of a single gang socket isn't impossible. Much like the original wall power sockets could only charge newer phones slowly but...

13A sockets in carriages - What is the maximum current they can supply and how are they wired?

Varies quite a bit now, but the EU will be mandating USB-C charging at upto 250W from 2026 so that's likely to change to 100% of new laptops in the coming years. I believe my Laptop pretty typical nowadays - supplied with a barrel jack charger - however it also supports USB-C. With a 30W USB-C...

"extra leg room between seats" Much needed - the only seats I can fit in currently is the back centre, emergency door row and tip up seats! Having long legs is a curse at times, hopefully nearer the EMR Meridians than the current buses in terms of leg room.

Class 810 for East Midlands Railway Construction/Introduction Updates

Urgh, hopefully we aren't going to see a regression to HST levels of discomfort due to lack of legroom and fixed armrests (were the seats in those lower down too?) - at least with those gone I can now make use of the fasts to/from Nottingham rather than having to stick to the semi-fasts. The...

Why is Wi-Fi limited and so poor?

Accommodation is much more expensive nowadays (what was < £60 a week in 2000 is now £121 a week, and most accomodation places nearer campus have seen an even larger increase (£200 a week is now normal)). When WiFi is freely available across campus, available at home (either home broadband or...

Why is Wi-Fi limited and so poor?

Open Roaming (Hotspot 2.0) could potentially be a work around for that - install the relevant app and it will automatically & securely sign you in when in range of a relevant Open Roaming WiFi network - e.g. the National Rail app (or The TrainLine, or Trans Pennine Express etc) app could install...

To what extent is an operator entitled to delay your exit from a station?

Nottingham is the same - gate line on the main concourse, but not if you've come in via Station Street, from the Tram, or Platform 7, and indeed there is a public footpath running down the access bridge and along part of Platform 7.

Poulton-Fleetwood reopening - more details announced.

Aren't there three unused platforms (one through, one north facing bay, one south facing bay) at the western side of the station that could be brought into use with some modernisation? Or do the Royal Mail make extensive use of them again?
