I'd love to have a go at travelling around Europe by train but not sure where to start with it, my apologies I'm a complete beginner, (coming from a family who only insisted on holidaying inside Britain). I'm Looking for websites that are the european equivalent of Trainline.com for good cheap...
Like all things on the road there is a bit of lee-way in the rules.
(Despite my location saying other wise) I recently moved to Somerset where you have plenty of roads with hard white lines, however the roads are so twisty it's fairly frequent for buses and lorries to cross over the line...
Agree, the only other benefits I can see is perhaps reducing overcrowding at Waterloo and if it's possible to make the service faster than the SWR Basingstoke service, which due to the LSWR mainline being far more direct, I doubt it's possible. I wonder if a Southampton - Oxford would have more...
Steam locos tend to be of a simpler, heavier duty construction than diesels, if you have a set of frames and wheels in good nick you're off to a good start.
I'm aware Lithium isn't a consumable as such but elements still need to be dug out of the ground and manufactured.
Are you the one on the council saying no?
Not efficient compared to more efficient mainlines but if you say compared that efficiency to the dominant mode of transportation, efficiency, can be measured in overall space consumed per person, for the journey, or the amount of carbon per person, or even the measure of energy it takes to move...
This forum really does love some rail closure fear mongering, railways are the most efficient form of land transport ever devised and I dare say the most sustainable. The case for rail closures on environmental grounds is absolutely ludicrous. Battery technology is likely to evolve to a point...
The C08 carriages had a very short life, being built in 2008 to replace damaged C69/77 stock cars from the London 7/7 bombings, being withdrawn around 2013/14
*edited to remove comments basically saying the same thing up-thread
I believe there were some GWR Broad gauge locos with a 2 year...
Just wondering if there's a brief summary of the electrical and mechanical gubbins that's original on the 484s and what's new. The impression I got from the wiki page was that only the bodyshells and bogies have been reused. But after watching the Geoff Marshall video, there was something...
I'm alright Jack as long as house prices keep inflating forever.
If overnight, road developments increased land values greater than the development of railways, priorities will quickly change, regardless of the social and ecological benefits of railways.
Remember folks a house is a home...
That's got far more amenities than I would've thought, I always imagined it to be a Winnersh Triangle type job. I'm from Whitley (South Reading) and there's been murmerings about this for years, at least since late NSE days when Madejski stadium was in the planning. My only concern is it'll give...
English language dubbing, instead of subtitles for foreign films and TV series.
A case in point; I watched Wallander when it was first on the TV with subtitles and fully enjoyed it, revisited the Netflix English dubbed version and it was unwatchable, the dialogue just felt stilted. Ruining a...
I thought it may have been exclusive to my area that the local FB page's completely both petty yet insane at the same time, but it's interesting to see it's the same everywhere. I'm not sure if the entire country's just completely bonkers or if the nutters are just the most vocal.
The Wright...
