    What's your favourite diesel train?

I'd probably say a Class 180. Noisy even when idling. Sound very powerful under power with that distinctive shreeking sound alongside the bassy sound of a powerful diesel engine. 158s are definitely up there too though.

Did class 91s ever operate at 140mph in passenger service?

Here it is: After reading again more carefully however it looks like the OP was referring to using the speed set to reduce speed, rather than its usage in general.

Did class 91s ever operate at 140mph in passenger service?

I was referring to the speed set. I can't remember exactly where i heard it honestly, on another thread here i believe. I'll link it if i find it.

Did class 91s ever operate at 140mph in passenger service?

My understanding is as thus: -Driver twists a knob which increases or decreases the speed set in 5mph increments. In the 91, an arrow on the outer rim of the speedometer indicates what speed is selected. In the DVT, the speed set has it's own seperate dial and turning the knob changes the...

Did class 91s ever operate at 140mph in passenger service?

There were 140mph signs installed at some locations on the ECML which remained for a number of years along with the flashing green aspect. Drivers were instructed to treat the 140mph speed limits as 125mph and flashing green signals the same as solid greens. The test trains of course could go...

    Mk3 Creaky Gangways

Thanks. They don't seem to creak like Mk3s yet sometimes you get a bit of an audible jolt as the carriage starts to move away from a stand. They don't always seem to do this though.

    Mk3 Creaky Gangways

What sort of gangways are used on the Mk4s?

Could we see a new livery for LNER's retained '225s'? What would you like to see?

Bit undecided on the VTEC livery really. Looked awful on the HSTs (imo) but doesn't look quite so bad on the 225s. They look quite nice from the sides but overall i would argue they look better in a more understated but smart livery.

Thanks! Quite a varied range i see.

    National Express East Coast Catering

Thanks all! The reason i'm asking where it originated from is because of the auto announcement device that was fitted to the 225s when they were introduced. One of the catering announcements mentions a "quality breakfast tray" :lol:which is available at the buffet so i was curious how the...

    National Express East Coast Catering

I read that, was wondering if it was any different for standard class passengers, but given how it comes from the buffet regardless then i suppose it's possible that it was served on plates regardless. I just find it a bit hard to believe that they would give you plates in Standard, especially...

    National Express East Coast Catering

Thanks for the find! Given that there is no asterisk attached to any of the "Hot Eats" options, it would appear that a chef was not required on board to cook these unlike the full english on that menu stating that it is only available on selected services and prepared by a chef. Question then...

Can you remember some examples of some of the food on offer?
