That’s the reason why cost is an issue, demand is high and supply is low especially with Russia being banned from exporting to us. They supply something like 50% of coal to Europe.

Exactly this. Pre-covid, coal per tonne was around £230 for us, its now hitting just over £400 mark so things are getting expensive. This “Biocoal” is £500 per tonne at the current rate. Even diesel has increased to around 90p per litre so it’s near enough doubled.

Totally agree with you, there’s going to be a point in a loco’s life when you question is the money worth it, parts are slowly becoming rarer so stocking them up when another loco gets scrapped is key to keeping it running. Things can be made, but they come at a price. I’m sure other heritage...

Agree with you. I maintain 50 015 and even though it’s multi coloured yellow the amount of sheer work that’s we’ve done to the actual bodywork to get it to the state that it’s in now has actually been hard work. Engine wise the tubs good but bodywork wise the rust spots were starting to show...

With regards to your edit, i do believe “the third” that Joanne is speaking of is the place where the General Manager is female too. If anyone knows Joanne she’s an absolutely cracking woman, always works hard and never comes off the footplate clean.
