    A career as a signaller

Seems that mine is carrying on as normal as long as it's ok with the on duty signaller at the time.

    A career as a signaller

I was 4 months before my start date and that was before all this covid19 business. It's just how long it takes due to limited class places at signalling school etc. It's a long process.

Supposedly 12 months but they always go over in my neck of the woods by all accounts 1599264514 If you filter all my posts then you will get a real idea of the whole 'ordeal' shall i call it

    A career as a signaller

So after signalling school, training, rules verification, passing out and then being left to my own devices i've finally been offered a full term permanent contract (i was on a fixed term contract). Almost 14 months to the day since i officially started with the company. It's a long old ride but...

They will look daunting at first but by the end of signalling school (certainly the most important), bell codes will become second nature to you and you will rarely have to even think twice what they are.

I agree with the consensus Railwanabe. In my short time working for Network Rail i've noticed that news doesn't travel as fast as it does on the railway. Everybody knows everybody and chinese whispers is rife. If you ask about money straight away then it's likely something you'd do in an...

    A career as a signaller

P.S. I was in the same boat as you, no previous experience and nothing to fall back on so in that sense was probably my own worst enemy. Had to much to lose so put unnecessary pressure on myself. But as long as you work hard and revise on the evebings i'm sure you will be fine.

It's not that the subject itself is hard it's just the sheer speed u need to grasp an understanding of such a large amount of information in such a short amount of time. Plus the pressures of having to pass the 3 exams. As the saying went on our course, it's not a 'turn up and pass course'. Just...

I personally needed all the time i could get on the simulator ans studying time. Unless u learn really quickly and you have a brain like a sponge you will need to as well. Put it this way my class and myself all stayed through the week and really felt like we needed to. Your in a bubble for 12...

No you do not have to serve 12 months in your applied for position before applying for other jobs. I know of a few that had already applied and accomplished higher grade positions from the 1 they applied for before even finishing signalling school. Although i imagine different areas may have...

    A career as a signaller

Honestly? Coming from no prior railway knowledge i found it very hard from start to finish. Hard being away from family and being back in the class room for the first time in many years. Get the sense that they want you to pass but at the same time they're constantly drilling into you that you...

    A career as a signaller

From what i have gathered they will be going into boxes (once passing out) ranging from grade 2 to grade 5. There is some people that have rail experience and some don't. It's a good mix. But as far as the actual course is concerned, everyone is classed as the same. More experienced people help...
