  • I spotted your thread re the long bridge near Stanton Gate Station. It was called the Long Bridge by we train spotters. The sidings was used to marshall south bound coal trains and was designed to take the pressure off Toton Sidings. Trains would come in from the collieries to the north and be sorted into trains for the various destinations. The marshalling was done by gravity and there were two humps at either end of the sidings. It was nothing to do with Stanton Ironworks.
