(The Travelcard was only for Bus and Underground at that time, no? It was a Capitalcard for rail services as well until the New Travelcard in 1989...)
But even so, yes, that made me feel sad.
I don't think it's personal against the OP, just that expenses are always easier to justify if they're correctly accounted for (receipted etc), as a matter of good financial practice and to safeguard against potential fraud.
(Avanti's response does mention specifically that no expense receipts...
I don't think GTR waste much time on whether stories are true or false, they just want the fares paid and they almost always settle out of court on the first occasion. I wouldn't infer that the story was believed.
I think it *could* be from the fraud team because of the seven day response that the OP mentioned - e.g. this letter from GA. https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/greater-anglia-prosecution-letter.249765/. I don't believe that standard letters usually have the same urgency. That letter from GA...
This previous thread of a similar situation (though with a different TOC) may be helpful - with the arguments for and against responding and the outcome in that case, which was a settlement.
If I were in this situation, my question would be around how I could engage with the TOC positively...
I don't think we've had the North Sea yet?
(Wikipedia mentions the South Sea off the Korean coast but that's a translation from the local language and surely a coincidence, both of which would I think be against the spirit of the OP)
I enjoyed the examples, though as this is a trivia thread, I thought you might be interested as I was to learn that Hokkaido (North Sea Region) was formed more recently in the 19th century by analogy with Nankaido (South Sea Region) which - along with Tokaido and Saikaido - have much longer...
Don't know if I'm missing something in your calculation, but the T5 trains are every 30 (not 20) minutes.
https://content.tfl.gov.uk/elizabeth-line-timetable-may-2023.pdf
If it were me, I wouldn't choose the EL without planning a particular time, and I'd check on realtimetrains that it was...
I mention it more as a warning than anything else. As you said in a previous post, SWR would need to be convinced that the tickets were bought for someone else. I think the OP needs to be aware that SWR *do* sometimes interview - a post from someone else in that thread mentioned three phone...
One thing SWR is unusual in doing is inviting people to an informal interview in similar cases in order to avoid a court case, e.g. see this thread, so there is a third option here - between a counteroffer and an immediate summons to Court - which might be triggered if the OP were to challenge...
But the Fraud Act Section 2 defines as follows:
Fraud by false representation (Section 2)
The defendant:
made a false representation
dishonestly
knowing that the representation was or might be untrue or misleading
with intent to make a gain for himself or another, to cause loss to another...
We've had several recent threads like this (where SWR have invited people to interview after noticing a series of evasion) and at present none of us knows what SWR's intent is in doing this. I see where advisors are going when they say not to attend an interview or not to comment - however I...
The byelaw section that I thought you might need to look carefully at was 14 (2) (ii), where the "reasonable direction" has been made in conditions of carriage and posters at stations etc.
(I'm not saying that TfL are correct to be following this up in this way so I'd be happy to be contradicted.)
