    Storm Henk travel disruption 02/01/24

On 1S30, just passed it at 15-20mph, couldn’t see anything in the dark.

ECML South disruption - OLE down 09/12

1N94 carried on towards Sunderland after picking up 1D81’s passengers at Newark and dropping them off at Doncaster, although I got off at York. As mentioned earlier, 1D81 was shunted into a siding at Newark.

ECML South disruption - OLE down 09/12

But that wouldn’t have helped last night, when the blockage between Grantham and Newark was caused by a fault on a non-LNER diesel unit…! As a matter of interest, was the considerable delay due to the time taken to assess the dragging brake issue and give permission for 1D81 to proceed to...

Heavily laden 1N94 now pulled out of Newark … and the passengers from 1D81 have got off at Doncaster.

ECML South disruption - OLE down 09/12

Currently on 1N94 north of Grantham, been standing for a while behind 1D81, which appears to have developed or encountered a problem

    ECML Disruption 02/11 - Huntingdon / Edinburgh

As did I on Friday, after having checked and seen that most trains were running. My outward booked LNER train was cancelled, but I managed to get on an earlier TPE train. On the return, my booked train was the cancelled LNER Stirling train, but I caught another LNER train at around the same...

    Aviemore incident 29/9/23

I enjoyed great views (sometimes over dizzying drops of hundreds of feet) from the open verandas of the old stock on the White Pass & Yukon Route railway in Alaska last month. It got a bit cold standing outside at about 3,000 feet up though!

Record-breaking 100+ hour delay? "You can travel on the Avanti service immediately after this train" ... in 5 days

Sadly, that does appear to be the case, and as an early thread was closed for some reason before I was able to reply, I agree with those who said that rail travel is no longer enjoyable due to the uncertainty and unreliability, and I’ll be taking far fewer rail journeys in 2023 (both for work...

Experiences of Travelling by rail on a Strike Day

I didn’t travel, but there appeared to be more services running than I’d expected - presumably because reportedly around a fifth of staff worked?

Details for 9 November possibly affected by the strike rescheduled for that day?

Rail beating Air for market share Edinburgh-London

Much easier to reach into my bag for food/drink - especially when at a window seat, with another passenger in the aisle seat. I’m always working too, so I’d need to lock and secure laptop, papers, etc and start again when I get back - all unnecessary when you can bring what you need. I would...

Rail beating Air for market share Edinburgh-London

Indeed - having recently flown from Edinburgh for the first time in years, with long waits both outward and inward (the latter in what was no more than a large old grey shed), I wouldn’t dream of using it for domestic flights instead of the train, where you don’t need to queue for ages to get on...
