Hi all, Does anyone have any information on the above role? From reading the job description, it looks like an SSM role with a few extra bits tagged on…. Also, does anyone know the shift pattern and changeover times there? I know it is 12s (and presume this role is also 12s) but trying to look...

I qualified a few years back and I stayed at the hotel, but this was purely down to the fact that commuting wasn’t an option due to the distance between home and school… however if I had lived closer then yes I would’ve stayed at home… Not Staying in the hotel does not mean you are setting...

Collision and derailment near Salisbury (Fisherton Tunnel) 31/10/21

I can assure you, making a Rec call does NOT put the signals to red/danger…… what it does do, is call all GSMRs in its cell area including all drivers, signaller, adjacent signallers and control. The trains will be brought to a stand, and will not move until the signaller gives them the...

Id assume it is location dependant…. if it helps, at my location there is not requirement for uniform for signallers…. Anything goes, shorts tracksuits and any top you see fit…. Some do wear NR branded tops, but it not enforced…. when I first started, I was offered 3-4 t shirts, a coat and a...

hi mate, first off congratulations on getting the job!! as for the school, the weeks are taught in a certain order to ensure that a) it makes sense and b) that it all fits together. the course is designed to teach a person off the street with no knowledge of tha railway. There is no point...

Same here as well except we are in the lucky position that we seem to get sundays covered whenever we want them, we even have some people who give up every booked Sunday.... one guy in my place worked one last year, and that was because he chose to rather than give it up.

It used to be 12 weeks but they have recently shortened it.. mad for booking onto your box, speak to your LOM. Reach box is different. We were given the rest of that week off, where as others on our course were made to attend straight away (this was a few years back) and with Covid things maybe...

Again Location specific.... some work the same panel (except if your relief) my place we have 2 panels on our link so I do 2 hours on 1 panel. Then a break then do another 2 hours on the other panel, then a break, then repeat the process... each signal box operates differently so hard to say...

Different panels, different locations different break schedules. Some are 2 on panel, 1 off, some 3 on 1 off, 3 on 30mins off etc There is no hard and fast rule..... and if there is no relief due to sickness etc, you are expected to stay on panel for the whole shift with just minimums...

If you have a quick search of this forum you will see plenty of posts about the recruitment process and how it works, I think LOM even answered a few question this last summer.. In short, no one had looked at your cv or covering letter before your tests. It is a standard that everyone who...
