    Members named after stations

I'm pretty sure they were, yes. Happy days.

    Members named after stations

Didn't RAIL magazine once have a whole sequential plethora of columnists coincidentally named after railway locations? Stewart Slane et al.

    Natural phenomenon you have witnessed?

Yes. In the 1999 eclipse I was working outdoors a little bit north of Berkshire, in the quaint market town of Bellshill near Motherwell. The effect I saw was dimness and a change in the quality of the light whereby the contrast was reduced and everything looked flat (like an underexposed video...

People buying houses with associated noise (churches, railways etc) and then complaining about the noise?

I remember the Minister of Rhu Parish Church having to explain to elderly parishioners that the bells would be ringing at unusual times (can't remember why) and that it wasn't an invasion. But I always loved the sound of the bells drifting lazily up the hill and similarly the sound of Class 27s...

Workings from multiple private sidings sharing a common line back in the day.

Yes. Having piqued my own interest by spending an inordinate amount of time poring over maps of Olde Glasgow's bewildering web of lines I think I'll take it further and do as you suggest. Thank you. I suppose there must have been some established protocols between the private operators. I've...

Workings from multiple private sidings sharing a common line back in the day.

Same principal but with many of these incredibly dense swathes of businesses and private sidings in the cities up until the 50s/60s, all feeding on to the same limited channel, it must have been hard to monitor conflicting movements.

Workings from multiple private sidings sharing a common line back in the day.

Just looking at a 1:2500 map of the old Pinkston area of Glasgow around the canal area which was interlaced with a labyrinth of private sidings and associated works and wharfs, all feeding on to a common line. My question is - how were train movements organised? Would there be some co-ordinator...

Unusual Station Name Lettering, Early 1960s Glasgow Electrics?

I seem to remember something similar at High Street, but there again... it was a long time ago. 1711063647 nb... Just noticed Buzby's thread "Glasgow Museums Resource Centre"in which he shows a Singer sign as noted above, in the 'Blue Train' style signage: Black on yellow with the chevrons logo.

Why were the class 27 built?

The Class 27s were built to provide the Western Highlands with the finest specimen of poised and elegant loco-hood ever to grace the noble rails of Scotland.

Unusual Station Name Lettering, Early 1960s Glasgow Electrics?

It was all uniform Caley Blue but there were thin black rubber window surrounds of course. I think it's just the way it's catching the light there.

    East Kilbride/Barrhead electrification updates

That's very interesting thank you. I think the MKIIIa maximum distance was 71 metres, so 80 (or wow! 95 metres) is electrification with seven-league-boots on. That should make a very noticeable difference.

    East Kilbride/Barrhead electrification updates

As mentioned above and elsewhere, TTCs mean only one pile being needed which must be cheaper and quicker AND lessens the chances of hitting signalling cables, etc. Unfortunately the structures are bulkier and more visually intrusive with more metalwork in the sky. And unless I'm much mistaken...

Fleet names that weren't widely adopted

In response to earlier mention of Electric Scots branding... It's a bit blurry, but the first southbound Electric Scot service is about to depart Glasgow Central behind the 303. May 1974.
