Would you want to travel on staffless public transport?

Context is probably important. City centre, reasonably crowded, frequent service? Probably okay. Late night, rural, empty service? Maybe not. On the train safety part - there's an accident of note in Taichung, Taiwan just last year where automation seems to have played a big part in that...

    Formula 1

Seems to be a minor change, though this fixes an anomaly that was present last season - in that qualifying 2 set the grid for race 1 and vice versa. Still have mixed feelings about sprints themselves, though this seems to be an okay change in my view.

Tapping out from Thameslink at Kentish Town?

To be pedantic, the system assumed the OP tapped in at Cricklewood, and out at Gospel Oak. It has no notion of railway geography nor which interchanges require a tap out and back in, beyond what is hardcoded by the human. Very simple logic!

Is it an offence to buy tickets on a pay as you go basis, rather than all in one, at the start of the journey?

Here's an interesting one I have personal experience with! I once took the sleeper to Stirling arriving at 04:55. I waited in the waiting room and only left the station at 06:45 or so as my first connecting bus onwards - unrelated to the railway of course, was at 07:00 or so. So probably at...

JAL A350 accident at Tokyo Haneda (02/01/2024)

One interesting point I note is that I've seen reports that the JAL plane collided with a "small plane" - I wonder how many members of the public have the wrong impression that they hit a small turboprop or something like that? The Dash 8-300, while obviously not a jumbo, isn't that tiny either...

Trivia : Popular tube journeys requiring a change

To go slightly off topic, had to do Liverpool Street - Clapham Junction a few times a few years ago. That took three trains at the fastest route, with each train being just one stop :D

    Travel between obscure stations

That's a fair point hahah, though I guess the railway itself can assign the location a code or a cluster that can be used - which incidentally some variant is already used in ticketing as we've seen in this thread and others. Any queries can be then hand waved away with "railway operations". It...

    Travel between obscure stations

Always wondered if it would be a good idea to put the county name or some other "group identifier" to the name of stations on tickets, if only to help guards and other revenue protection. It would then be as simple as say guard on a London - Edinburgh train seeing a ticket from Cambs to Scotland...

Foo Fighters - Wasting Light (2011) I was much an MTV kid growing up, and heard the occasional Foo track now and then when they decided to go for more rock than pop. It was at about this time when they dropped their seventh album Wasting Light, and I vividly remember thinking "wow, this is...

Epica - Epica vs Attack On Titan Songs (2017) I'm a sucker for weird crossovers, and Dutch Symphonic Metal meets Anime certainly checks that box. My only gripe? The EP is too short! Regardless, hoping for a v2 now that the anime has sadly ended.

    Formula 1

In an ideal world, definitely! Just was thinking of a best compromise in the event that checking all 20 cars is unfeasible.

    Formula 1

This is an interesting edge case that is bound to lead to more questions than answers, not least the two most obvious “Are their teammates also actually in violation?” and the extension “Heck, are even more teams actually in violation as well?” Perhaps a rule change is in order - possibly...

Amorphis - Silent Waters (2007) It's always interesting to go through a musician's entire discography and get a feel of how their sound evolved over years or even decades in quick succession. For Finnish metal band Amorphis, my favourite run of three albums starts here - with them at theiir...
