    Cycle Bag Searching at Stations

What threats are mitigated by searching through panniers which are not threats when it's a vehicle parked in a carpark, a suitcase been left alone in a toilet cubicle for 20 minutes, or in a suitcase or pannier left on a train and not noticed until the end of the line? Out of an abundance of...

    Cycle Bag Searching at Stations

Anything small enough to go in a bike pannier can caused far more damage by someone putting it on a train at Wigan, getting off (without the bag) at Warrington, and then having another person trigger the explosion when the train pulls into Crewe. Alternately just park your bike at Crewe and...

    Cycle Bag Searching at Stations

Are suitcases often opened and searched? The railway encourages and even mandates bags to be left at the end of carriages, often out of sight.

Is there way of making the Caledonian Sleeper more profitable?

We travel on 4 and 6 berth couchettes all the time. People pay a fortune to get far less than a shared sleeper cabin in a first class suite on a plane. However that would damage the "hotel on wheels" brand. Nobody advertises F on a plane as a hotel on wings - the closest you'd get would be "The...

Avanti WC down the pan again

The 1538 from Glasgow south yesterday was cancelled due to delayed incoming train which was delayed due to missing crew. Same cause as the delays the day before. The next train (via Birmingham) got to Crewe at 1927 (itself 27 late), and guard told everyone for London to get off and get the 1932...

Avanti WC down the pan again

Thanks. Been sat on a Glasgow bound train at Preston for the last 30 minutes without a single announcement, any sign of any staff other than BTP who were walking through earlier.

    Off peak return timings

Buy the ticket at woking station from the machine, you'll get a few pieces of card. Just put in "Greenwich" as your destination. An off peak return costs £21.80. It's valid on trains from Woking arriving in Waterloo after 10AM. You will need to go from Waterloo East to London Bridge rather than...

    Super Off-Peak on an Off-Peak

Just to clarify, was it a super off peak ticket from Birmingham to London super off peak, and on the return leg, on a weekday, on a train timed to depart Marylebone after 04:29 and before 08:30, or after 16:00 and before 19:00 -- presumably the 0604, 0631, 0735, 1737 or 1837? It's worth double...

Less than 50% of delay repay being claimed

Went to claim for one avanti on arrival at euston, but it wouldn't accept it, so gave up and forgot about it. I normally travel london midland or whatever it's called this week, I tend to claim before I've even left the platform, makes a big difference.

Taxi ranks at Elizabeth Line stations.

If you want a black cab, Paddington has a big rank which I think is fairly easy to get to from the Crossrail platforms. If you're arriving at T5 it could be a long wait for a Lizzy line service

Taxi ranks at Elizabeth Line stations.

You could leave at Farringdon then call an Uber (or Uber XL if you have a lot of luggage)

Future of Ticket Office Consultations launched

Sure. so 50p for online, £1 for TVM, £2 for ticket office (adjust values appropriately) As it stands my understanding is that the online retailer gets about 5%, and has to pay if a ticket is collected from a TVM. Seems reasonable. Some online retailers then charge even more for whatever added...

Future of Ticket Office Consultations launched

Perhaps the cost of ticket offices should be added to the cost of buying them, and likewise for online So take a current £10 ticket, and reduce it to say £9.50. Add a 20p overhead for buying online, or a £2 overhead for buying in person to fund the cost of the ticket office Then everyone's...

Future of Ticket Office Consultations launched

Those aren't tickets. That's like printing an e-ticket. The international airline industry finished moving to e-tickets 15 years ago Any chance of the railways industry catching up?

    Reading & Reading West

Many years ago I wanted to travel Twyford -> Reading, break journey, then Reading -> Reading West, then return Reading barriers ate my ticket. With these "group" destinations is it legitimate to BoJ (or indeed simply pass through a barrier to get some food from station facilities). (Same would...
