Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway

When the 450s were introduced, the CWNs were rewritten / diagrams tweaked almost monthly to fit new units into service alongside knowledge of when training was finished. I believe there is not the staffing at HQ to be doing that for this introduction so training has to get a lot further before...

SWR Class 458 to be retained

Wasn’t this why the 444s were parked up at Fratton all day on a Saturday whilst 8x450s ran up and down the PDL? The 450s got more respite between the peaks M-F due to most recent peak extras being 450s, whereas the 444s run all day.

    Portsmouth Harbour-Cardiff Central GWR

The works are taking place in the Trowbridge area. There are details on GWR's website. Aren't they being done by two separate divisions of NR maintenance, namely Wessex and West? So likely that there was no co-ordination here. The Fareham-Southampton closure is mid-week as there is a high flow...

Where you have a journey of train A followed by train B... If you have no chance of making train B because the train you are on is delayed, then section 9.4 of the NCoC applies: Note this very specifically requires a delay not (part) cancellation. However otherwise section 28.2 of the NCoC...

The smaller station stops can go back to the Brighton stopper and speed back up the Fratton-Chichester portion on at least one Victoria service.

City centre is basically a student village now. Fratton is the busiest based on it being the most appropriate station for about half of Portsmouth residents. Your info is likely more accurate than mine, even if older. Mine was from an OBS so pinch of salt.

I can't remember if it was 2 or 3 units being saved by better turnaround times and dropping the third Chichester - Portsmouth service. One of these will now be needed for the third service to Portsmouth. There were due to be 2 Chichester stoppers per hour, only one will continue to Portsmouth...

This is sensible: 1. The Chichester proposal was a big departure from current service agreement. 2. Feedback from officials in Portsmouth were not happy at loosing the fast service from Fratton to Chichester calling only at Havant. Presumably one Victoria service can now still run faster to...

SWR Class 458 to be retained

Chat today as part of the 701 launch was that the 458s are set to go on to Basingstoke/Alton stoppers rather than Pompey expresses as it cuts down on training time whilst still making use of their new gearing along the mainline. Also suggested that no one cares about the Pompey Direct...

    Portsmouth Harbour-Cardiff Central GWR

Two weekend closures between Bath and Westbury and an entirely separate closure Southampton/Eastleigh to Portsmouth during the week (school half term). Assuming later work is in the Fareham area given extent of closures.

It used to…. But it was being found that the matches were finishing so late that the passengers were not there for 1718 or whenever it used to run.

    Portsmouth Harbour-Cardiff Central GWR

Of topic, but this comes back to the row between the council, football club and Network Rail. The first two are happy to stump up a 1/3rd each to investigate the viability of a second entrance at the north end of the station to relieve congestion but the later refuses a single penny.

    SWR Metro fleet permanent withdrawals

It was - front carriage of 450013 out of use. Someone commented that as first class was down from 32 seats to 8, it might as well not exist. I thought careful what you wish for! It’s clearly been running like that for a while as it had a pre-printed poster explaining it was out of use due to a...
