Mineral railway from New Bridge north of Pickering

One quick Google later...and I found an Industrial Railway Record article from September 1966 Sandstone from Saintoft nr Pickering I won't quote the entire article (not sure as to who has the copyright) but the opening paragraph is as follows:

    Calculating Railway Height

Liverpool not Newlyn datum in 1890 surely? Newlyn wasn't set up until the early 1910's and it can make a difference to the levels. Also, if you are in coal mining country, then the OS benchmarks may also be showing changes in level due to subsidence. One of the things I do like about my day...

1S43: Why not calling at Arbroath Montrose and Stonehaven?

I meant that they ceased to call. Now they just run through without stopping. As to why they haven't resumed calling, I would like to know that myself.

1S43: Why not calling at Arbroath Montrose and Stonehaven?

XC used to call at Arbroath, Montrose and Stonehaven before Covid and lockdown. They stopped during lockdown and have never reintroduced the stops. Never had them cancel a stop because station staff were unavailable to dispatch but they might have changed the rules since pre-covid times

    Stagecoach East Scotland

Thanks for posting this. As usual I find out more about changes to the local buses by this forum than I do by any other means. Link has been duly circulated. Losing the direct link to Perth and by extension Perth Royal Infirmary via the X7 will be an issue for some especially those who have to...

    Cooperation in building a footbridge

In general, as long as the L&Y were not paying for it and it benefited them, I would have thought they would be co-operative. Some scenarios spring to mind. 1) L&Y would provide minimum requirements which council then designed around 2) L&Y supplied the design (which you suggest might have...

    Troon Station Fire (17/07/2021)

Regardless of whether of not it is a railway project or not, steel frames of the kind shown are routinely erected using cranes and Mobile Elevated Work Platforms (MEWPS) or "cherry pickers." Doing so saves time, saves money, cuts the overall number of people required to do the job, reduces...

Confusing message from Scotrail about catering facilities

Scotrail catering consists of a trolley service and is known as the "Lesser Spotted Catering Trolley" amongst my work colleagues given its post covid rairity. More seriously, Inverness to Glasgow/Edinburgh is currently disrupted as certain loops are not being used to avoid frozen point failures...

    Coal mine and Tram Road

Dunkirk Pit, Read Link above is to a summary of a talk given back in 2013. Going by the map the pit is either next to or is the one which is the focus of this thread. Might be worthwhile seeing if the speaker is still around as they might know more? There is also the coal authority web viewer...

    Unusual journeys

Pre covid it formed a useful Dundee-Arbroath-Montrose-Stonehaven-Aberdeen service. Now it just carries fresh air between Dundee and Aberdeen and vice versa. For the evening service, again this used to call at Stonehaven, Montrose and Arbroath as well as Dundee. Again this was pre covid but it...
