  • Thanks mate. I appreciate the advice!! Being on the 2006 pension that has been ripped apart. Being the only officer for miles and miles when all hell is breaking lose has really made me question the job and what I want. I'm earning 34k but when I take out all of the deductions it works out at around 23k so I'm trying to convince myself I wouldn't notice to much of a change in the beginning. I've got 5 more shifts this week then I'm going to complete the form. Thank you mate any advice is greatly appreciated.
    Hi there,
thanks for writing and yes I am a driver based in Cambridge, whoever told you Im quite accomplished though is a little bit wide of the mark lol!
Concentrate on getting a database of questions/answers for applications as opposed to mastering your cv...the reason why I say this is because not all tocs will ask for a cv (hardly any asked for mine) but they will ALL want you to fill in an application with questions about your experience and lifestyle etc...if you have these ready to cut and paste it makes applying for a driver's job much easier.
If you get a chance to apply for a drivers job let me know and I can assist you from there..all the best, Dave
    Hi Dave
I am 24 of years of age and looking for a trainee train position hopefully somewhere in the east. I am located in around Cambridge. I believe my CV is almost complete however I am currently doing a Health and safety course to add to the CV, I understand TOC'S are very hot on safety so hopefully this works in my favour. I am already a HGV driver.
I see your already quite an accomplished Train Driver and I would really like to know if you could offer any good sound advice which possibly may help my CV be pushed to the front of the queue in terms of selection. I currently dont work for a train company so my application would be external. I have attended the course on How to become a train driver and they offered good advice but it was mainly on the application process and the interview etc. Currently right now I am just constantly checking TOC'S for vacancies for trainee train drivers, I do welcome any advice you could possibly pass on.
    Hello Dave,
I read that you have a good knowledge of what is happening at assessments. I hope that you got the job that you wanted.
I am due to attend an assessment for Southern conductor next week.
They have sent me the documentation for me to prepare but there are a few unclear points.
Would you know whether the role play and the structured interview happen on the day of the assessment?
Also what scenario do you get for the role play? Is it anti social behaviour or rather an upset/angry customer?
Any info would be very much appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Pete.
    Hi there,

I have recently applied for a conductor @ Selhurts for Southern ( y'day ) and got a email today asking me to attend an assessment day.

As you have already had your assessment day or (AD for short) how was it?

What tests did you go through?

    Any help would b appreciated.
    Hi there,

I was reading through one of your threads about the assessment process and I was wondering if you had any websites or tips on how to pass the assessment. i have tried the mechanical reasoning tests so far and I have done alright, but i was wondering if you had some websites where i could test myself on everything that is going to be on the assessment day.

    much appreciated, fellow shipmate.
hello dave! sorry i have only just realised this message. I have only applied for Brighton as I dont really want to move much further away yet. Im still awaiting shortlisting and have emailed firstgroup twice but they have just said we got over 1000 applications, you will be informed soon.
I have heard people have applied for more than one position. I also know some people have been assesed and interview already but i cant find out where they applied for!
