Presumably without a diesel generator (fitted for heating) and fuel tank on board there's a weight (and build cost) saving and therefore a slightly higher battery range. Not going to be at all pleasant in winter though.

Whilst paper maps certainly aren't as popular as they once were, in my view it's still better than watching a street mugger run off with your £500+ smartphone.
It's worth noting that two stations (Iver, Taplow) get an half-hourly off peak service. Cancel 1 train, suddenly the next train is in an hour, cancel 2 and you might as well have not bothered. If you touch in and wait on the platform for the next service, you may well exceed the fare time limit...
