    Secret bus timetables in Dublin

One small piece of advice: don’t use Google Maps for public transport journey planning in Ireland, as it’s been out of date for months now.

    Penalty fare increase to £100

The change whereby, following a successful appeal, a TOC need only reimburse the penalty exceeding the full single fare applicable seems ill-thought out. What happens if you hold a valid ticket, the inspector refuses to believe it’s valid, charges you a penalty fare and you win on appeal? They...

    The Bad Advice Thread

When boarding and paying on a London bus, be mindful that they are exact fare only and ensure you don’t pay using Northern Irish notes. Drivers are reluctant to accept them.

    London Buses Discussion

The 9 and 27 are both less frequent than the 23. Indeed, the 23 seems to have won out above all else, with the 7 (which also parallels it) also being reduced yet the 23 remaining completely unaffected.

Onboard announcements on buses set to become standard?

It's really impressive that TfL have had iBus since 2007. Leaps and bounds ahead of almost all operators.

paying excess fare on e-tickets isn't supported properly

A few weeks ago Paddington ticket office excessed a screenshot of my friend's e-ticket; she had accidentally bought a day return instead of period return. The lovely ticket clerk did the “12345” trick without an ounce of bother. It really doesn’t have to be a painful experience.

I wanted to add a 16-25 railcard to my oyster and was refused.

You have to unfortunately shop around at Paddington. The Praed Street (District and Circle lines) did it for me, but the staff under the concourse refused with the same barrage of excuses you got.

Bus companies without websites or published fares information

I can't find much about fares but their website is better than average and they do have timetables for their local routes. Link

First West of England (Bristol, Bath & The West)

Given that Bristol zoo is due to close in future and be relocated to South Gloucestershire, I wonder if this will lead to a downgrade of the importance of the 8. Without such a large pull for passengers at the top of Clifton, I can imagine there'll be some restructuring of routes in the area. Of...

Trivia - Are there any cases where a bus journey is more expensive than a comparable train journey?

Bristol Temple Meads to Clifton Down is £2 for an Anytime Day Return. The single for the bus is £2.25/£2.50, depending on whether bought in advance or not.

TRIVIA: Bus routes in the UK serving at least 3 or more counties

You're right with the 17 as it does pass through Somerset, Bristol and Gloucestershire - thanks for pointing it out. However, the A4 and 672 only pass through two counties: Bristol and Somerset. Bath is part of Somerset.

TRIVIA: Bus routes in the UK serving at least 3 or more counties

First West of England 18, 19 and 37 pass through Somerset, Bristol and Gloucestershire.

First West of England (Bristol, Bath & The West)

The 2/2a frequency reduction is reasonable and understandable. The m3 dropping to every 20 mins makes is somewhat less of a metro service. Personally, I think something more should be made of the route, like an extension to Temple Meads. The m1 seems to be faring much better - retaining the 10...

    Penalty Fare notices

It's because TfL Penalty Fares are issued in accordance with Schedule 14 of the Greater London Authority Act 1999, which is somewhat less fussy about exact wording and the appearance of the signage.
