    ASLEF strikes W/c 6th May

I am a passenger who relies on the railway to get about. One day earlier for the Avanti strike and I'd have been seriously messed up with holiday plans. But it's a dispute between employer and unions. It's got nothing to do with me and if the drivers want to withdraw their labour in pursuit of...

    Shred`s UK trips.

I'm pretty sure B&M sell them, but if not, the sweet shop just past Primark does. Both on Standishgate - just keep walking past the Subway. Talking of which, Hideout in the Arches (just under the WCML bridge and turn left, next door to Wigan Central) does great toasted sandwiches. The grilled...

Thank you. My advice is going to be the off peak return and do the change at Chesterfield and Oxford Road on way back. Could be a few pounds cheaper, but with the flexible tickets they can change plans if they want to. Not a great weekend to be going!

Bolton to London 4th to 5th May

A friend has asked for advice for a 70 year old travelling from Bolton to London outward on 4th May, return on 5th May. I know there is a tube strike on 4th May. No railcard held (but obviously likely worth getting just for this one trip). Not too worried about an early start on the Saturday...

First Manchester buses on M6 and beyond today

Any idea why there have been between 15 and 20 First Manchester double decker buses heading North today? All empty, no destination indicated. Still seeing them in Lanarkshire!

    Derailment near Grange Over Sands

The daytime trains are all pretty busy at the weekend. Mix of visitors to Silverdale, Arnside, Grange, Ulverston; locals going from one village to another; younger People going to Lancaster or Preston for a night out.

Merseyrail to introduce Oyster-style ticketing from the Autumn

Metrolink is trams only (for now), so no railcard issue.

Inspiration for a two night UK break from Manchester via train

I was just about to post Lincoln. Daytime things to do include the Cathedral, the Castle and International Bomber Command Centre. Lots of lovely restaurants and cafes around Steep Hill area.

Indeed. However, I live 5 minutes away from NW, so home now. 1710175374 Delay Repay approved already. £21 which is ok.

Advice required for travel on 7th March - cancelled train

Well, I made the 16.55 and am now on the last leg. All worked out in the end. Thanks for advice.
