    Arriva Conductors

I really hope your right, however if and it's a huge, massive if the Valleys gets converted to light rail they'll be main issue. As long as Class 142/143 and 150sarw plying the Valleys, Guards are safe - so long may we keep the busses on wheels !

    Arriva Conductors

If I was as faced with the push at ATN or Merseyrail I would consider a move to a Valleys Depot, but even then the Valleys may be subject to the next DOO dispite.

    Arriva Conductors

Seems like a reasonable move to me, depending on where they are looking to take qualified guards, places like Crewe, Chester or even Shrewsbury and Llandudno would look like good places for soon to be displaced Merseyrail or even Arrvia Northern Guards to move to. It wouldn't surprise me if the...

GWR Shortage of Traincrew Weekend and During Week

Hold your horses sunshine l, I received my ballot form whether to accept or not the RMT pay offer only late last week. The option to not work Sunday has been well used over my 14yrs as a guard to show our displeasure at certain issues, I was offering an reason why there was such a shortage if...

    Quick Signalling School Question

Your LOM will booked tickets on Sunday evening going up and Friday afternoon coming back, usually you'll get two weeks in advance - you can collect them on the day of travel from your home station.

    A career as a signaller

What we were told was if you score below the margin for error on any of the assessments during the course you would go home to your SB, and your LOM would make a decision on your future. Chances are you'll go back onto the next course and start again from week one. Week five assessment is...

    Signal boxes and grades

The best way, although very slow and long would be to watch the external vacancy list for Wessex locations and note them as they come up. I'd suggest grade 3 would be the lowest for Wessex, upto grade 9 for Wimbledon desks. The majority being around the grade 5-9 range is expect.

    level 8 signaller roles

I believe that the practice of applying and being offer a grade 2 (for example) job, going to signalling school then whilst there applying and getting offered a higher grade job has been stopped, I think your at your initial location for at least a year. When the year starts I'm not sure...

    level 8 signaller roles

I was successful for my grade 7 job, and I know three who got grade 9 with zero signalling experience. Of the 5 others on my course, 4 had zero railway experience.

Tytherington Quarry; freight line to reopen?

The notice I saw clearly stated it was planned to go all the way with modified pilotman working in operation, the train was also top and tailed as the train would climb the steep grade on the line. It did end up running very late, probably why it was cancelled, maybe somebody was out of hours...

Tytherington Quarry; freight line to reopen?

It's a trial run with DBC supplying a 42 vehicle top and tail train. Initially the rear loco won't supply power, it can be called upon if required though. There is a DBC contract in the offing for the line.

Conductor jobs- how many times can I apply?

That's not quite correct - driver and Guard have two attempts (fails) at the assessment stage. You can attempt and fail the actual driver/Guards manager interview as many times you like, just don't balls up the assessment twice.
