Greater Anglia Bombardier Aventras (Class 720): Technical discussion and introduction

Overhead wire problems in the Chelmsford area this morning. That probably knocks it on the head for today.

    The start of seismic change?

I think one thing that might happen after this is that ‘key worker’ jobs become more sought after. People who are in non key worker positions might not be keen to remain in those jobs in case of a further or similar outbreak. Rather like banks having to pay into the FSCS, all business may have...

Driver - Personal Protection Strategies (PPS)

When you cancel the AWS, verbalise out load why you cancelling it, and then react accordingly. I cover up the door release buttons on the side the platform isn’t with my schedule card. TICTOC - train in commentary train out commentary. Eg 8 car board doors right dispatch by bats, leaving on a...

    Driver wages

At the moment it’s a Drivers market. Big industry wide retirement bulge coming up I believe. Recent new franchise awards have centred on running more trains and services which means more drivers needed. Increasingly people don’t want to work unsociable hours and all of this is driving up wages.

What if travel restrictions were imposed on trains in the UK?

I think many TOC’s have been doing a pretty good job of restricting travel with cancellations and delays and short forms even before Corona virus became a thing.

    Class 745 Stadler FLIRTs

Last nights hissy fit at Manningtree held up the HOBC getting from Parkeston to the Southend line. Caused delays to the already very reduced Southend service that’s in place due to the ballast cleaning. On top of the reduced peak Southend service due to the speed restrictions at Manningtree.

Also 317’s don’t have route availability on the Southend branch. Would strike the platforms at Billericay.

Been trying to get a job in the rail industry for a year: is it worth it?

Is it worth it? Yes? I have been driving 7 years now, wish I had started earlier. Right now it seems lots of TOC’s are recruiting and with some experience and a good safety record the world is your oyster. I am soon to change TOC’s myself, something appealing came up and I decided it would be...

Applying for Train Driver Job with Criminal Record?

    Class 745 Stadler FLIRTs

Saw 002 passing through Stratford download soon after midday on what presumably was a test trip. 007 and 010 were in traffic this morning.

Dangerous overcrowding at Stratford 31st Jan

Quite often you find West Ham are 0-3 at half time and people leave early, which alleviates the congestion

A 4 car 321 has positioned next to the failure on the DM. Looks like passengers going to be de trained to the 321.

Greater Anglia 2019 - What could possibly go wrong?

It was another horrific day. Overheads down on Southend line and then big signalling failure at Bethnal Green, 1-12 out of action at Liverpool Street nothing able to use the main or suburban for about an hour.
