Calling all software developers / programmers on this forum

Sure do - I'm (primarily) a C++ developer with a background in engineering. It's very rewarding and I've ended up doing some pretty amazing stuff. "Next, I eat the lambda".

    Problems on the ECML 14/02

Her name was Becca (https://twitter.com/BeccaAnnArchy). We don't know her full name. She was 44, trans, and struggling badly with dysphoria, social isolation, anxiety, PTSD and chronic pain. After she passed away an auto-posted suicide note was published on her blog. It's heartbreaking to read.

Swanage to Wareham from 13th June announced

33111 can work push-pull with a 4TC set, but it's not mainline registered so not permitted to work to Wareham. Although 33012 (D6515) *is* mainline registered, as a 33/0 it can't work push-pull. I can't speak for the status of the 4-TC re TPWS etc.

When was your first railway journey alone?

February 1980. Bishop Auckland to Darlington, and within a few months I expanded onwards from there to York, Newcastle, Thornaby, Carlisle etc. I started travelling solo when was 13, but by the time I was 15 I was going all over the country. Most memorable? Probably the Deltic/40/pair of...

Oldest stock you've travelled in on the network.

I'd guess it would have to be either the occasional pre-nationalisation (buffet?) coach on the ECML in the very early 80s (I definitely remember seeing E suffixes on some, but can't be sure of dates), or the class 485/486 EMUs on the IOW at the time. Runner up would have to go to the class...

    Genderism

Yep! Souvenirs of the stuffed toy kind, courtesy of Bankok airport. :) Though I did see a real elephant on the street in Chonburi one evening. At the time it was a novel sight, but with hindsight, I'm iffy about the ethics of using a wild animal in that way. But I have to admit that its...

    Genderism

According to the Pope we are. http://www.pinknews.co.uk/2015/02/21/pope-transgender-people-are-like-nuclear-weapons/ To clarify a bit - *some* people (notably nonbinary people - trans or otherwise) need access to gender neutral toilets for safety reasons, but not all of us. I've never...

    Class 43 HST cascade fate

XC Voyagers aren't usually that heavily loaded on the Southampton-Bournemouth leg, but the 4 car ones in particular tend to resemble sardine tins between Reading and Birmingham. Not fun at all.

    Plug sockets on new trains

FWIW More Bus services in the Bournemouth area seem to have charging points and Wi-Fi as standard now....and those aren't coaches by any means.

    New Shunters

I can't speak for the DSD, but Cromptons also have dual controls.

Jeremy Corbyn would consider women-only rail carriages

Thank you. It needed to be said, and you've saved me the task. I look forward to tomorrow's headline: "Burnham announces plans for women-only bandwagons."

    Decent Coffee on trains

I think Chiltern do too. They're also the only one I've come across that have the facilities to satisfy my onboard cappuccino craving.

    10.59 Bournemouth to London Waterloo

The X50 bus from just outside Bournemouth Central goes direct to Swanage station via the chain ferry (so you get to go on a bus, on the ferry). In the summer it runs open top, which is great for taking in the sea air on the trip. I live just a few minutes walk from Bournemouth station, so an...

    Head transplant

Assuming the whole thing isn't junk science no - though the brain being exposed to sex hormones it isn't used to may have undesirable consequences which may well turn out to require subsequent medical intervention. Basically, it's complicated. Giving Oestrogens to someone with a male brain...
