So because I don't use the railways that often (any more - I used to) I can't comment about them? Great attitude. I'm a second class citizen, clearly. Apparently I can be entirely judged by that "last paragraph" of mine, which basically says that around here I drive mostly. Well, guess what...

I know. (Saying that, perhaps they do for a laugh now and again?) And here's where my grasp of reality differs with your supposed grasp. I don't bother about informing them of stuff they already know. They know perfectly well what's what at Shrewsbury and at other stations in Shropshire...

It might well be top of any such list... not going to make any difference in if/when it will be done. No one cares about Shropshire's railway stations, including Shrewsbury, despite its prominence on the ATW network and having 1.8 million passenger entries/exits..! (And that doesn't include...

:lol: Oh yeah, 'cos they'll go out and buy those carriages after I write a letter to them! Get real.

The two-car 175s were ridiculous when they were introduced... a decade of strong passenger growth later and they're a serious problem. Alas, this being the Welsh Marches, nothing is being done about it. I wonder if anything will be in the new franchise agreement along the lines of "all trains...

Too obvious. They'd rather reduce capacity through the station (and make a ridiculously wide platform 3) than make Crewe Junction a little more complex. Shrewsbury needs a complete re-think and I'd imagine that will happen if/when electrification arrives... one day. And by "complete re-think"...

Shrewsbury platform 8 on page 72... I wouldn't hold your breath for that one! We're still waiting for the toilets to be refurbished at Shrewsbury...:roll:

Worst route(s) in UK for anti-social behaviour

Here in Shropshire the main trouble spots seem to be (and this will come as no surprise) in Telford, particularly at Wellington - or at least that's how it was a few years' ago (it may have improved..? ..doubtful.) The LM stopping service (Wolves-Shrews) therefore can have a few utter divs...

    Pronunciation of Shrewsbury

I can imagine (in the modern day) a shortened/colloquial form of Chichester as "Chy", but not a "ky" but "ch-i" (rhyming still with sky). But as Busaholic said, you wouldn't pronounce the city's full name as Chy-chester (ie the first element rhyming with sky)! I suppose if you did people would...

    Pronunciation of Shrewsbury

Yeah, I would say it in one go, but where-ever you put a 'gap' (or not, like me) in the name, it's pretty much pronounced as it is spelled. Which is why I'm pondering a bit...

Trivia: Station that can reach most stations within a county.

By the "real world" you mean for local government purposes. Derby is not in the local government (technically the "non-metropolitan") county of Derbyshire, but it of course is in Derbyshire. And this "true county" is given a present-day legal meaning by way of the Lieutenancies Act 1997 (as well...

:? Erm, isn't that how you pronounce it?

    Pronunciation of Shrewsbury

Yes, no-one calls it "Leo-minster" - it is universally (by those who know of the place) called Lem-ster (give or take a dialect!) Also nearby, and also in Herefordshire, is the former borough (alas, since the 1830s just a parish) of Weobley, which is also pronounced without the "o"...

    Pronunciation of Shrewsbury

Town!! The proud Salopian would say "...a first-class town, not a second-rate city..." ;) It does seem that the Welsh name pertains to the place being a fort/a town fortified [by the warlike Saxons?]. The English name comes from "fortified place (borough) in the scrub [shrub]-land".

Trivia: Station that can reach most stations within a county.

Maybe Ordnance Survey should start including the ceremonial county boundaries then. What it says. The boundary runs down the centre of the river and (as rivers move a bit now and again) the "centre" means as it is at any given time (ie it can move). This isn't that unusual - many river...
