Do I have to use the most direct route?

I was think of an interesting day out and looked at Northern Rail tickets from Preston to Carlisle. However, I was wondering if I have to use the most direct route in either direction? I was thinking Preston - Blackburn - Clitheroe - Settle - Carlisle and for the return: Carlisle - Maryport -...

    High fare prices?

Ah thanks for that. I'll take a look. We tend not to use the car once at our destination anyway, so the lack of one doesn't bother us.

    High fare prices?

Hi I am looking for some advice if possible. Every year my parents and I travel from the Midlands (Birmingham / Cannock / Lichfield / Stafford) area to Falmouth. This year, they want to also take along my niece (who is under 15) and we won't all fit in the car. I have suggested that going on...

Can I take a motorcycle on a train?

I don't know if I've mentioned this, but I am not concerned by efficiency. I don't understand how you can claim that a petrol engined vehicle can consume less energy, when 60% of a petrol engined vehicle's input energy is wasted overboard as heat. You can calculate the figures for your vehicles...

Can I take a motorcycle on a train?

I didn't buy my electric motorbikes for any environmental reason. They just suit my life better than a petrol powered bike. Battery efficiency for a car is currently 89%+ if you only count tank to wheel efficiency. The Otto cycle upon which a fossil fuel burning engine works can only be approx...

Can I take a motorcycle on a train?

I've got rid of all my gas burners and doubt that I'll ever go back. I was just curious to see if the rules had relaxed any since I last looked into it. Got a Zero FXS too if I want something a little more sprightly!

Can I take a motorcycle on a train?

Haha - well that answers that question! Thanks both for the replies.

Can I take a motorcycle on a train?

Hi. Possibly an obscure question (and I didn't really know which forum to post in) but can I take my motorcycle on a train journey? I have an electric motorcycle (Super Soco TC1500) with a limited range of about 50 miles. My parents live 100 miles away and obviously I can't get to their house...

How many applications and interviews until you cracked it?

I've applied for 8 driver jobs over 3 years, never made it to an interview, but at 53 years old, I guess that train has left the platform a long time ago.........

    Leniency on Rail card use?

We're on the west side of Preston - great for the guild wheel, but by the time my partner cycled to Lostock Hall - that accounts for half the journey and it would be more effective to just continue to cycle to Blackburn. Shame the classes didn't start half an hour later!

    Leniency on Rail card use?

Travel is only 3 times per week and heavily dependent on Covid19 - if the college has to shut then the travel is not required for a period of 2 weeks+. It's quite a gamble to pay for a season ticket and then end up not using it half the time. I guess the only option is 'no option' and to 'suck...

    Leniency on Rail card use?

I guess it's one of those 'caught in a trap' scenarios. The ticket is from Preston to Blackburn = £5.70. Splitting: Preston to Lostock Hall £3.10 + Lostock Hall to Blackburn £5:10 so even with the rail card, the effect of splitting the ticket results in only pennies different. If the train were...

    Leniency on Rail card use?

    Yes - under £12.

    Leniency on Rail card use?

My partner uses a mature student railcard to travel to college. This entitles discounted travel on trains after 9:59am. In order to ensure arrival on time, the only available train leaves at 9:57. Given that 99.9% of the journey (time and distance) will be undertaken after the 9:59am time limit...

    Overloaded train!

Well, at the weekend I found out that even in Train Sim World 2020, you can join 3 trains together and drive it. Sadly, I couldn't get it to go up the slight gradient out of the yard and it eventually slowed down to a halt. It then started sliding back down the gradient and derailed! I had a...
