Help with £155 out of court settlement for sitting in First Class

You don't say, but presumably if you elect not to pay the proposed settlement they will prosecute - in which case you do have a right to protest and explain yourself in court.

Someone impersonated me and now I have to go to court.

Ah, good to know - thanks for the info.

Someone impersonated me and now I have to go to court.

I agree with everything except your last sentence - indeed a body cam may not have been used, I only included the suggestion as another avenue that may help the OP in establishing that it wasn't her, as there is a chance one may have been used (or CCTV from the train) and a recording or still...

Someone impersonated me and now I have to go to court.

Their clear statement that body cams are used is surely to be taken at face value - unless you happen to know they definitely do not and their website is mistaken? In which case, fair enough.

Thameslink state they use body cams in their privacy policy.

Someone impersonated me and now I have to go to court.

If the official who apprehended the person in 1st Class wore a bodycam it would prove it wasn't the OP.

Also, if you have home insurance they sometimes have legal cover included.

Caught with a Zone 1&2 Travel Card... I was coming from Zone 4

It may only be necessary to fill in the bare minimum of information, but I wonder if it would be better to fill in all fields fully, so as not to appear slippery and to be seen as cooperative. I agree with Fawkes Cat - a lawyer may help here.

    Northern Fare Evasion Prosecution

It is unclear from the OP's account whether Northern know about the 2nd ('honest') lie, in that the OP hasn't actually said they informed Northern of the real origin station.

Caught with a Zone 1&2 Travel Card... I was coming from Zone 4

The OP says that he feels remorse, and if this is true then the upside of coming clean and repaying what he owes is that his remorse will be eased.

Caught with a Zone 1&2 Travel Card... I was coming from Zone 4

If you know you've done wrong and feel remorse you could fess up for the whole 2 years and pay/face what's due. You spoke of poor sleep so maybe this might help you sleep better.

Notice of Intention to Prosecute Letter

What is unclear to me is that OFFWHITE received a text during his journey which meant that it was at that point that he made a decision to extend his journey. Therefore it is hard to see the relevance of earlier opportunities to buy as he already had the correct ticket for the journey he...

Great Northern Carnet tickets - what am I being accused of?

This seems an easy fix. Date the card before the barrier. There must be a quiet spot/corner where this can be done out of the way of others, whilst/after checking if the trains are running satisfactorily. Or, as someone else said upthread, there are plenty of apps where live train times can...

Incident with a fraud prevention officer at Stevenage (Govia Thameslink Railway)

If you knew that your card was not reliable, it is your responsibility to either replace it, or to have a back up means of payment for your ticket.

    Quiet Coaches

This is interesting. To be honest I have never seen a guard intervene in a quiet carriage either on SWR or on SWT and many times wished they would. Quiet coaches create a paradox: by generally being quieter than other coaches they make an excellent place to make a phone call.
