I'll reply on message. Saves clogging up the thread

I was a Sep '19 starter too, but for BLY depot. My induction must've been the 1 after yours.

Oh No A Pensions Question ( GWR )

Thanks @PupCuff for your input. I'm at the point of choosing what to do with my pension after changing TOCs. I didn't realise it had changed in that way. I've been at station staff salary for 15 years, and now on a driver's salary, hopefully for the next 15-20! And I noticed the retirement age...

St Albans Abbey & Marston Vale services to resume from 24 August

Ohhh, and I finally came up with 'dragons' as a nickname for them too ;)

Oh No A Pensions Question ( GWR )

The railway pensions scheme is final salary. It might be an umbrella that all the TOCs come under, but should all be final salary.

    Was the Pendolino worth it?

It has a 140mph design speed, and I'm sure it it was very possible to be spec'd at 155mph by Alstom. But there were a few prohibitive things: • Wouldn't want the increased track wear that 155 would cause, suspension would need mods. • Additional power supply demand & cost for increased speed. •...

Drop Out Rate for Trainee Train Drivers

I guess lockdown has been difficult for everyone in different ways. Horrendous hayfever allergies for me this year! Sounds promising for you to soon return, all the best with that. We have had no word as to when the return will be. Return to work plans are being made but AFAIK no agreements are...

Drop Out Rate for Trainee Train Drivers

From what our training group has experienced of the apprenticeship, if you don't have A-C in GCSE Maths, English and ICT, you are obliged to do a week's top-up of classes and sit exams for which you get a City & Guilds qualification. Already had the Maths and English, so was exempt from those...

Drop Out Rate for Trainee Train Drivers

Just came across this thread. I'm in the same boat (I would say train but haven't been in 1 of those in months!). Barely 20 hours into mainline handling before lockdown happened. The assessments do sound monumental. But from what has been said, they assess you when you're ready. Bit like they...

    Training Centres, where?

Bletchley driver training is done in 3 locations. 1st week induction and simulator work is in Birmingham. Classroom work is split between Northampton and Bletchley. If you need any more info @James71 message me.

    WMT driver pool 2021

The application process for this role (at any TOC) is partly luck of the online system & algorithms. After failing final interview with LOROL, I applied to Southern. They didn't even give me a chance at their online SJT, despite having passed all the OPC tests. Ex-colleague drivers at my...

    WMT driver pool 2021

There was a lot of EMT recruitment for Kettering/Corby wasn't there? The electrification is proceeding apace from Bedford. Training is a lot of info to cram into 4 months of classroom. Induction, Intro to operations, Rules 1, Traction & Low speed handling, Rules 2, Route learning. Then the...

    WMT driver pool 2021

Well I haven't seen this year's applications, but it sounds the same format as last year. The SJT was internal, and Abellio sent a link to shl.com (online assessor) to take the assessment. OPC tests or not, it doesn't matter. You have to pass this first.

    WMT driver pool 2021

This will be the internal SJT. It usually consists as @Sal79 said of a 4 way multiple choice. 15-20 questions. It will be hypothetical driver scenarios. They're looking to see how well you follow rules, stand your ground, be responsible, delegate tasks, prioritise time, preparedness. As I said...

    WMT driver pool 2021

The furthest 1 of our group commutes is 30 miles/55 min. For me it's 20 miles/40 min. But in a bad rush hour that could creep up to 1 hour. Some parts of training were done in Northampton and the odd sim day in Brum. So effectively a commute to Bletchley followed by a train journey on top of...
