They can and do run as single 1 car units but as already mentioned only on shunts and ECS from Glasgow queen street, one example is this

The path used is normally 5H07 a 2+4/5 ECS from Clayhills to haymarket. They made use of this and put the back to back power cars today on that same path under 0H07.
I’d guess it’s easier to do this than altering the actual path to go via newburgh

This one has always fascinated me, a once a week service on Sundays terminating at Inverkeithing. It is pretty useless for anyone leaving edinburgh late on sunday wanting to go further into Fife
I think I remember seeing...

It’ll be the stock brought from Aberdeen last night, 1 lounge and 1 seated coach. I can’t say what the traction is either although it should become pretty obvious soon enough
Yes Aberdeen still has them, platforms 7 north and south which is just one long platform.
Other examples in Scotland which require passing through 2 separate gatlines are Edinburgh platforms 13-18 to platforms 6, 7, 11 and 12. And also Inverness platforms 1&2 to 3-6
And then there’s also...
Was very surprised to be checked on the last Lancaster - Preston service of the night on Monday too, the northern one that leaves carlisle just after 19:00
To be fair nearly every service to/from Inverness and Aberdeen on a Sunday still stops there and the frequency of services to and from Aberdeen the other 6 days of the week at Dunblane were never really that great even before the May 2022 timetable change.
There are still 2 services a day to...
Practically all of the section from Bridge of orchy - Tulloch (around 30 miles) has no signal although that’s hardly surprising given you’re crossing some of the most remote stretches of railway in the country
