    HST coach disposals

Looks like some MK3s from Ely are off to scrap once more, anyone have any ideas what they will be? My bet is the ex LNER/EMR stock although the LNER BR tour set has been there for a while and the owners were talking about it being scraped soon according to Northumbria Rail's HST-P (prototype...

Could the W1 have beaten Mallard's speed record?

I never realy thought about the fact that increasing speed for any future iteration of the A4 would not be one of the primery objectives. The way you explaned it there was very eye opening and informative. Thank you

Could the W1 have beaten Mallard's speed record?

So it seams like the rebuilt W1 would have been unlikely to beat Mallard’s 126mph, although Mallard could have given a second chance. Partial plans for a production rebuilt W1 'super A4' apparently are supposed to be with the NRM archives. It was proposed to use the W1 frame and most of the A4...

Could the W1 have beaten Mallard's speed record?

Recently I’ve been looking into Gresley's planned developments of the A4 class and the re-built W1 class locomotives. I know the W1, when rebuilt, wasn’t capable of developing high cylinder horsepower and due to having only 8" piston valves it was not as quick as an A4. W1 locomotives tended...

Is it time for some of the ex GWR Long Marston stock?

There seems to be a DRS loco-hauled movement from Long Marston to Newport Docks (Simsgroup) on Friday. https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/K01119/2020-02-21/detailed The fact it is loco-hauled suggests to me its Mk.3s or that some 43s are no longer operational. I believe the first is more...

GWR operating short 'HSTGTi' sets (see diagrams section for workings)

Good seeing the two at Bristol, probably the last time I’ll see the blue livery until some of the others start getting scrapped.

What is this DRS movement from Newport docks (sims group)?

The movement has just been activated on RTT. I know it doesn’t confirm that it will ever move but it at least suggests something may happen.
