    Double third rail query

It's the train fault alarm. There's a large third rail gap in the platform, so the train has a panic attack when stopped over it for too long.

    Double third rail query

I drive that line, that gap can be quite unforgiving sometimes. I usually take it up to 20mph and coast until the end of the conductor rail on the left, then I'll take power again. It does struggle, especially if you didn't get up to a decent coasting speed, even more so during low adhesion. It...

    London Overground line names announced

The Olympic Line would have been perfect, unfortunately IOC's trademarks prohibit use of the words “Olympic”, “Olympiad” and “Olympic Games” - so could never have been an option.

    London overground station announcer change

It changed over on the East London Line between Dalston and Surrey Quays about 2 years ago. Still Emma at other ELL stations south of NXG.

Arriva Rail London - Trainee Driver - New Cross Gate / Willesden (19/06/23)

Good luck to those of you starting on Monday. See you at NXG soon!

London Overground services missing out stops to recover the service

This happens often on the East London Line too, especially in morning peak. Usually, I'll be contacted by the signaller at Shadwell and asked to run fast between Shoreditch and Highbury. I'll then change the PIS at Shadwell (Shadwell is a start/destination so easier to set up that way) and blank...

LED traffic lights - are they a distraction for train drivers?

The only distraction I've had is entering West Croydon (southbound). There is a bridge just behind the signal protecting the station, and directly in line of sight is a pedestrian crossing. Sometimes I'll see the green man start flashing when I'm concentrating on the red. It was a distraction at...

    Arriva -New Cross Gate

Swings and roundabouts really. For a lot of people who start here and no no different, it is what it is. If you're coming here from a TOC that runs high speed services you may find it too intense, but that's only as you're driving slower and stopping more frequently. A lot of the T/Cs at ARL are...

New LCD information screen at Brondesbury

These are emergency E-Ink Information Displays. If the signs are faulty, they can put this on platform. Low energy and wireless, the cable behind is for theft protection. Not sure why it's out when the sign is working, possibly waiting for it to be taken back somewhere else.

Use of the GSM-R by signallers/control to contact drivers

One thing that annoys me is we'll get General Broadcast about underground lines being down on approach to interchanges to LUL, but they'll never do one when there's disruption on our line. Instead we are sat waiting not having any clue what's going on. Just a simple "Faulty train at xxx...

Signals New Cross Gate to Norwood Junction

I've just had a look at some recent route learning video (couple of years old though and only have the Southbound version). It seems only place you'll find them at stations is Forest Hill on northbound platform, Penge West and Anerley. There are plenty of others though between stations...

Signals New Cross Gate to Norwood Junction

That photo is taken at Honor Oak Park on the Up Sussex Slow (Northbound). However, it was taken before the platform was lengthened and replaced. There are numerous other places they can still be seen. Brockley/Forest Hill/Anerly/Penge West etc.

Third Rail - Safety on Track?

I walk through my depot where the AWR is less than a foot from a live conductor rail. I respect it, but at no times have I ever feared it to the point I'm questioning my employment.

If the train door is closing, does pressing the button open it again?

Thank you for repeating exactly what I said.

If the train door is closing, does pressing the button open it again?

Probably the same on 377s, but on the 378s if the hustle alarm starts after the timer has finished and is about to automatically close the doors, breaking the beam will stop the hustle alarm and reset. As you said though, once the driver has pressed the close door button, the passenger open door...
