Avanti West Coast Trainee Train Driver Euston and Wolverhampton

It’s probably test scores. From experience, these usually run in grades from A to D and the highest scores will take priority. I can’t see at this stage, with so many applications, that they would even differentiate between gender/ethnicity etc.

Depending on the TOC/FOC between 1 and 5 years. Most are 3 or 5 years though.

    Interview feedback....

Congratulations! I guess in hindsight it makes sense, as why would they pile resources in to telling people they haven’t been successful if they don’t have to?

Different Driver Depots Route and Traction cards

GWR Fratton Traction - 158/150/16x (Mostly 16x now apart from Brightons, but even they will start to be 16x more frequently. 150s are a rarity). Routes - Portsmouth to Cardiff Central Portsmouth to Brighton Portsmouth to Eastleigh (diverts) Eastleigh to Salisbury via Chandler’s Ford Bristol...

Train driver Awareness and recognition Test

    1. You can sit it as many times as you like, but cannot fail it twice and have a third go. Apparently and as silly as it seems. No, this is NOT stage one. Stage one will be conducted at an assessment centre. Some TOCs/FOCs do things differently, but it’s generally in two stages.

Balfour Beatty - Trainee Train Driver Job Listing

I assumed (and as such may be wrong), he was saying because you’re making all these moves at an OTM Driver, there’s more chance of an incident because of this, in that role. Although I guess it works like that in both cases through habitually doing something and then having to do something else?

    Interview feedback....

Feedback is usually only given when you haven’t been successful as @joshuan542 said. However it seems strange that they appear to have approached you to offer feedback? This is usually only done if you request it, and then it’s not often very forthcoming. This might be a good sign, you never...

    Trainee Driver

Are you a DI? The figures speak for themselves. I think we can expect a slight rise in infection/death toll as you’d expect when restrictions are eased. However, since it’s been 3 weeks and the deaths/infections are still reducing and the statistics show public transport usage is still as low...

    Trainee Driver

Wasn’t aware the other one had been locked....must have been stealth locked :D I know it’s up to the DI whether they have trainees in the cab, but luckily there are a fair few who wouldn’t be too bothered by this. Truth be told, nobody knows what will happen in the longterm with this...

    Application progression

It’ll depend on the company definitely. Some are still progressing applications and have been continuously throughout lockdown, others have stopped all but essential roles they need to recruit for. I would imagine it will start to move a bit further forward now in general though as we start to...

    Train Driver online prep courses

Thanks, I had a railway background of about 12/13 years prior to becoming a trainee driver. It wasn’t operational experience really though and the most I had in that respect was PTS (Personal Track Safety).

I’m not exactly a brown noser, for want of a better term, but sometimes promoting what you do will see you in good stead with the right people. Doing a good job is also a good way of getting noticed, but is often only in your current organisation and the hierarchy within your current role...

    Train Driver online prep courses

I can’t comment on the quality of the course, as I’ve only ever had the book, but what I will say is there’s so much info here with some very knowledgeable folk so there is no need to spend any money at all. All psychometric assessments will have practice material with them, and there’s other...

    Train Driver online prep courses

32 is no age at all. A lot of trainees start in their 40s or even 50s. I’m 37 and have been training just under a year. What I would add to this thread is that where I personally didn’t find it worth the money I paid for it (and I only got the book!) there’s invaluable interview advice which is...
