  • Hello my friend, you are in exactly the same position that I and other were or are in. I lived in the midlands and had to move down to Colchester in Essex to get a trainee job. You really do need to look father afield and be willing to relocate. LM did take on some trainees recently but Ive heard there were around 2500 applicants for each 10 trainee positions. The other option for you is to apply for a job in another grade, say a guard or platform staff as you stand a far better chance of then getting into the driving grade.
    Hi Terry

Yeah my father works for LM and they tend to promote in house for trainee drivers usually promoting guards. Chiltern tend to poach qualified drivers. You really need to be willing to relocate. We at GA take on trainee drivers from the street, so do First group and so do Northern. Again I wish you the very best of luck!

    Regards

    Hi Terry

If you are wanting to become a trainee driver check all the TOC's websites on their careers page. Trainee positions do come up but they are rare and are usually only open for a week or so. Even so TOC's get thousands of applicants for usually only a handful of positions. You really need to make yourself stand out from the crowd and be prepared to relocate. You are not allowed to live more than an hour from your depot. Good luck!!

    Regards
