Labour promises rail nationalisation within five years of coming to power

Sounds like Labour in the 1990s when they promised to nationalise the railways, did they? Well I suppose they nationalised South East Trains then privatised it again then they nationalised National Express East Coast. The also vehemently denied nationalising Railtrack PLC as Network Rail. Given...

    Derailment near Grange Over Sands

It is announced as Dalton-in-Furness on the 195s although the station itself is just Dalton. Mind you the 195s refer to Cark & Cartmel station as Cark-in-Cartmel which is incorrect.

Permanent closure of Belfast Great Victoria Street station

Scary to think Great Victoria Street is 29 years old.

    Idea for Buxton line improvements

Hasn't the Buxton line got quite low bridges meaning electrification would be difficult?

Rail services to be included as part of Bee Network: how should this be achieved?

There would also be the question of if it would be run directly by Greater Manchester Combined Authority or a concession. Let's not forget the Metrolink is run by a private company as part of a concession. As is London Overgound, the Elizebeth Line and Merseyrail.

Rail services to be included as part of Bee Network: how should this be achieved?

Not too sure about that bear in mind it would require a "Bee Network" TOC to have their own stock and depot as well as drivers and guards. It works on Merseyrail however that is largely self contained with soon to be 1 type of rolling stock.

Rail services to be included as part of Bee Network: how should this be achieved?

It would be very difficult as there are very few trains that operate solely within Greater Manchester.

Rail services to be included as part of Bee Network: how should this be achieved?

Realistically all that will happen is some trains will feature a Bee logo on them. It's nothing new really as we used to have the Merseytravel branded 142s and it wasn't uncommon to see 153s with Transport for South Yorkshire written on them especially outside South Yorkshire. Burnham doesn't...

Grange-over-Sands Derailment - Response of local MP including idea to run a shuttle service

I was walking over the bridge at the end of the promenade in Grange today and there are two new rails about to be put in place between the crossover at Grange signal box and the other side of the footbridge meaning a shuttle service between Barrow and Grange would be impossible anyway.

West Yorkshire Mayor Tracy Brabin promises "spades in ground" for tram network by 2028 if reelected

Over the weekend I noticed this from Tracy Brabin who is the Mayor of West Yorkshire and is running for reelection. While a West Yorkshire Tram Network would be nice I think she is being a bit optimistic about promising spades in the ground by 2028. Also given the plans for the Leeds...

What is the point of Old Oak Common?

As others have said it's meant to be an interchange with Crossrail so that passengers can (in theory) get to most parts of London with one change as Euston isn't really well served by the Tube or Overground compared to other station. Presumably though Old Oak Common would be set down only on...

Grange-over-Sands Derailment - Response of local MP including idea to run a shuttle service

No it was the Liberal Democrat election leaflet although the Liberal Democrats do have a habit of making their election leaflets look like newspaper articles. I agree, particularly on railway issues as they seem to imply that complex issues can be easily solved. Indeed, while I was driving...

Grange-over-Sands Derailment - Response of local MP including idea to run a shuttle service

Recently I saw this leaflet by the Westmorland and Lonsdale Liberal Democrats, it contains what the local MP Tim Farron would like to happen. Looking at the article though it contains a lot of politician who knows nothing about the railways talk and I found it very tedious and frustrating to...

[Trivia] Passenger Trains That Often Carry No Passengers For Entire Route

A couple of times I have been on the last train of the day from Birmingham to Rugley Trent Valley and been the only person on the whole train north of Cannock. I regularly saw the corresponding train leave Rugeley Trent Valley going to New Street leaving Rugeley Trent Valley empty and it...

    Derailment near Grange Over Sands

Slight correction from my previous post I was driving through Grange earlier today and I noticed both trains were still there at the derailment point with blocks under the wheels although the lights were on in the trains still. Not sure what is happening currently.
