Having just read an article about 319's being fitted with diesel engines the surely they would be the right class to run Reading Wokingham 3rd rail, Wokingham to Ash Diesel, the 3rd rail to Guildford/Shalford Junction, diesel to Reigate and then 3rd rail to Gatwick and reverse of course!

There is a direct Guildford to Birmingham via Reading train at 0602 each weekday morning. Otherwise 2 trains per hour and change at Reading for 2 trains per hour to Birmingham.
